they'd break ? really ?

I've been told that you can clean CD's like this: fill the sink with warm (not too hot or cold) water and put a teeny bit of soap in it. and then hold the cd and swirl it a couple of times in it and then wipe it with a cloth.

I think they would break because I saw on TechTV a while back that you are supposed to use a little bit of white toothpaste on a really scratched up CD and brush/rub outwards toward the edge, not in circles. So I tried this a few times when I rented Silent Hill 3 and it started skippin alot and some water got stuck in the middle of the CD by the hole and it cracked a little bit!
