To be honest, I do think Ayu needs a break. It could be me, but it seems from 2002 Ayu seems to age a little and sounds more tired. She seems most busy around January-april, with all the concerts and album. After April is where we see the less busy Ayu, since she generally released 2 singles. Then again, she does sound a bit workaholic for me...

... why are people always worried about this? If she wants to take a break, then she will... if she doesn't, then she won't.. how do you know that her work is tiring her out? how do you know that she gets exhausted from it? it's what she likes to do >.> only Ayu herself will be able to say when and if she needs a break...

Why do so many of you scared that Ayu won't be huge anymore when she'll come back from a long break? Personally, I don't care. Sure, sales are quite important. But what's more important is that Ayu continues making good music for her fans and herself... the way she wants. I wouldn't mind Ayu becoming underrated at all.

I don't think her recent materials are getting worst either. Although, they aren't her best works either.

So how are you sure a long break will make her release her best works in her career thereafter? I personally doubt so.
ayu's vocals in my opinion have gotten much better. She has reduced the vibrato, her voice has gotten cleaner and polished. She still has flexibility to do the Fly high rap sort of thing (Ladies Night) and add other original elements to her singing. That's the work of a singer. The fact she sings songs such as fairyland, which some people don't like is to be blamed in the composers avex has been managing to get lately. They have quite a limited range of composers in my opinion, DAI is hardly a composer for ayu anymore, and H/\L has gotten short of special arrangements/compositions. Her taking a break wouldn't change avex set of composers and arrangers. The rest is to be blamed in avex market policy, the way they've gotten stuck in the CD, CD+DVD strategy, how the covers have became simpler and less daring. Ayu taking a break wouldn't change these.
Instead of a break, maybe she could slow down on tours and stage performances and concentrate on improving her composition skills, learning how to play an instrument or so on. That wouldn't be called a "break" though.

Don't think she needs a break. If she did she'd probably take it.

Why do you always have to be so right? LOL. Your points always make sense.

I'm not sure. I guess because she doesn't need to rush things out.

She's always been rushing things out, or to put it differently, she's always released things at a high pace. Even her "best" stuff. And remember, she doesen't do that much musically herself. Her music is taken care of mostly by other people.

And also, I thought she picked the songs she wanted to sing herself from a lot of demo tapes? I read somewhere she listened like more than hundred songs before deciding. If so, ayu herself would be the one to blame for lame melodies. It's possible that she doesen't recieve demotapes from "any" composer thogh, but is seems to me like sh could be getting anyone she wanted (like in the case of Geo).

I think she SHOULD be getting back to DAI, use him as a "base somposer", and supply with other for variations. =P Perhaps DAI's the one taking a break from composing.

Hm? Well, I'll say that her depressed/sad songs are one of her good songs because they have more meaning in it. They touch me when I'm sad. I also do think that if she takes a little break, she'll have more inspiration. =) It takes time to create something good.

i think she will take a break as long as she needs it.. i think that she is doing fine with 4 singles, an album, an arena tour, a CDL every year.. whether she should take a break or not really depends on herself. whether she can take it or not.. and not for us to decide.. but i feel that she shldnt take a break.. if not that may be the end of her career..

i really don't think she works as much as most people seem to think. i mean, i work 40 hours a week at my job and i'd almost bet thats more hours than what ayumi works...but i don't see anyone saying that i need to take a break. seriously, if you think about it, i'm sure ayumi has more free time than you'd expect. maybe she has periods where she works a lot, like when rehearsing for her tour or something, but in general i don't buy this idea that ayumi is overworked and overstressed. so no, i don't think she needs a break honestly.

True, I share the same feelings as well. There are weeks I have to work 60 hours/week. I do think ayu works a lot, but enough to deserve just a regular break, just like any profession out there.

exactly. no one else can just take an extended break from their job, i can't understand why people think ayumi should do so.

And when you think about it, Touring Japan isn't that hard [but I'm not saying it's easy]. It isnt huge, I mean, compared to some artist who spend a year or two touring the world, touring Japan isnt as hard.

well i think avex should just calm down on the interviews and cut some mag appearances and wut not. but i think the 3/4 singles, 1 album, 1 CDL, arena tour per year is sustainable for her...
