Almost all of them, except for the Japanese students who've come to live abroad for a year, and my anime freak ones.

I think maybe one or two of my friends think that I'm weird because I listen to Ayu, but that's their prerogative and I can't really do anything to change that. However, some of my other friends do think that I've become a happier person since I began to listen to Ayu.

Most of my friends think i'm wierd for listening to Ayumi -- but I think that's alos because i'm usually a metal/industrial/rock music fan, so my addiction to Ayumi is a bit out there

But I do have one friend who thought the songs were funky

Well, when I first started listening to Ayu (around 4 years ago), I was still in high school (in the middle of nowhere)....so all my friends thought I was weird for suddenly listening to ONLY Japanese music x_x;; But, once I got to college...even though most of my friends didn't know much Japanese music, they didn't think I was weird for listening to it. ^^ They just got used to my weirdness Haha.

haha good qns.

1) some of my friends think that listening to japanese songs is weird cos i will not understand a single word (unless i noe japanese of cos). they just feel that its a waste of time listening to some "rubbish" which they cant understand. but the lyrics are far more better than mando pop or english pop.

2) my closer friends knew that i love ayu many years ago. they wont find me weird. we often discuss about our idols! they will ask me if ayu has any latest updates or whatever. my friend even likes Bold & Delicious! he will ask me to play that song thru the phone. LOL

Well, since none of my friends listen to mainstream music anyway, I have nothing to worry about! They're always asking me about "that Japanese music"

There are probably many other reasons why my friends think I'm weird, but I guess Ayu's one of them as well.

People think I'm a bit strange anyway, so nobody really cares, although my mother did ask me why I listened to something in another language.

My friends don't think I'm weird because I don't let them see how deep my love of japanese music goes. I listen to lots of foreign language music like French, Korean, Indian, and German, so I suppose they figure the Japanese part is all part of the package.

wow, considering when this thread was created, i thought i'd have commented in it alread, but here goes.

i don't think my friends really think its weird, i'm sure at some point they did, but now they're used to it. a few of them actually like ayumi now. still, i'm paraoid sometimes when i meet new people because initially i'm afraid they will think its weird. on a whole though, people don't really care one way or the other.

Old thread O_o.
Anyway, yeah..
Not just Ayu. Every artist I listen in another language I either get made fun of, or questioned. I have to wear headphones every time I listen to it so my brother doesn't make a joke about me or something.
It's annoying. I like what I like, and that's the end of it. People just can't accept what I like. They want to convert me to their music or something, when their music either bores the crap out of me or hurts my ears.

When I first met a lot of the people who are now my best friends, they thought it was odd that I liked Ayumi and J-Pop. Usually they would say things like, "Well as long as you aren't an anime fan" (which I used to be). I have a few friends who do like Ayumi and like J-Pop but most of my friends don't think much of it as they know that it's part of who I am. Plus, I wouldn't really care even if they made fun of me because I would just go around singing Ayu in front of them alot anyways. Well actually, I do that now regardless

no, not really. most of my friends like j-pop too. except some of my classmates when i was in school, they do not understand why i prefer j-pop to c-pop or e-pop. i just don't care.

while those aunties or uncles, they will think of me as j-pop girl, that's all.

Good thing i have no friends!! j/k

Most my friends probably do think i a bit strange but really everyone is strange in their own way. I've gotten a couple friends to listen to ayu but not nearly as much as i do. Most people around my age (22) seem to already have their minds made up what they like and aren't willing to try new genres. Or maybe its just the people i know.

But anyhow we're just gonna have to change the perception that listening to music in other languages is somehow weird
