Lets say instead of ayumi hamasaki there was ryu kawasaki

Would you still be a fan? Could you still relate to the music? The image?

Could you imagine a man singing SEASONS?

Would AHS even exist?

I personally wouldn’t feel the same. It just wouldn’t work.

I doubt I would be a fan. The whole package of Ayu could never be properly translated into male form, at least I don't think so. It's because she is a woman with a woman's voice, style, and mannerisms that I like her so much!

When you mention if I'd be a fan if Ayu was a man I immediately come to think about Gackt. Well, they're not very much alike in any way, but considering I can be completely into male artists aswell I see no problem in liking Ryu Kawasaki. It was Ayumis music that I fell for from the start, if the artist name would have been Ryu but the music still of equal greatness I would still have loved it.

On the other hand, I'm thinking those thoughts aswell. My "fandom" would never be able to grow to the same extent, I would probably not be here, because it's impossible for me to see another person with the same persona as Ayumi. Very hard to know. It was Ayumis music that first got me caught, then I was captured by her being, I have no clue if Ryu would be able to do the same.

It's hard to say because Ayu is so very much a woman. Her music reflects it even, so we'd see a lot of changes in the music. I don't know if a young man could ever have as much cultural influence in today's world of music. On fashion and style, for instance. But I would love to see it.

I've seen other translations of that clip, it isn't neccesarily exactly what she is saying, hehe. What we hear her say is all in the hands of the translators. I don't think she used the word pimp, but it'd be hilarious if she really did.
