J-Pop Comes to Seoul

By Cathy Rose A. Garcia
Staff Reporter

The K-pop music boom has allowed many popular Korean musicians to hold concerts in Japan in the past few years.

Now, it’s Japanese pop and rock musicians’ turn to perform in Seoul. In the next few weeks, there is an unusually high number of Japanese musicians holding concerts in Seoul.

Toshi, former lead singer of the influential rock group X-Japan, will perform during the Korea-Japan Peace Concert on Nov. 4 at Olympic Gymnastics Hall, Olympic Park, southern Seoul.

Toshi and Korean singer Lee Seung-hwan have been specially chosen to represent their countries for the peace concert. Toshi, who left X-Japan in 1997, is expected to perform what he described on his Web site as ``beautiful, healing'' music.

Korean indie rock group Nell, which recently released their album ``Healing Process,'' will also perform.

The Korea-Japan Peace Concert is organized by the Seoul International Cultural Foundation to promote better ties between the two countries, as well as to promote pop culture exchange. A similar concert will be held in Sapporo, Japan, next year.

Ticket prices for the Seoul concert are 44,000 won, 66,000 won and 88,000 won. For more details, visit www.interpark.co.kr or call the Seoul International Cultural Foundation at (02) 415-7476.

J-pop group Arashi will make their concert debut at the Olympic Hall in southern Seoul on Nov. 11 and 12. Arashi’s first major concert, ``You Are My Seoul Soul,'' is expected to attract thousands of girls and young women, who are crazy about the five-member group.

Arashi made its debut performance in Korea during the Asia Song Festival in Kwangju last September. It also held its first meeting of Korean fans, which attracted some 2,000 people.

Arashi is holding a total of four concerts in two days: at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 11 and at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 12. Tickets, which are priced at 88,000 won, will go on sale today at www.interpark.co.kr.

Meanwhile, pop-dance singer Goto Maki is holding her first concert ``G-Emotion in Seoul'' at the Melon-AX hall at 5 p.m. on Nov. 19.

Maki made her first appearance at the Asia Song Festival in Busan in 2005. Since then, she has attracted many Korean fans for her catchy dance songs and cute but sexy image. She recently released her album ``Premium Best'' in Korea.

Hard rock group Machine will hold a concert at Rolling Hall in Hongdae on Oct. 28. The group, composed of Kiyoshi and Hakuei, has a distinctive sound, mixing industrial and hard rock music.

Ticket cost 60,000 won. For more information, check www.interpark.co.kr.
