To me it's more a question of inspiration mixed with bad execution and a lack of perfectionisme I mean when we look at the RULE making of it's her who give nearly all the directives and the final result is billions times better ... She also gives the directives for the MV of WARNING and the result is quite decent even if nothing really happen at least it looks profesionnal when you look at it IMO !

Giving all the directives and actually knowing what angles to film, what light looks better, how to better put the right rythmn on the video, etc, etc, etc are very different things. Anyone can choose from pre-made options from a professional or describe to the professional what they want to convey until the professional gets to the desired point. Doing it all by yourself it's a whole different thing.

Knowing how you want your cake to taste and look like doesn't make you able to bake the cake yourself.

That being said, I do like the video for XOXO and find Lelio to be so bad it's fun. But I only like 1/5 of Ayu'd PVs.

It's a shame that at her most experimental in recent years, the PVs just didn't really deliver. I wonder just what happened behind the scenes that made it so they had to "go it alone" with just the "A TEAM" resulting in the really strange PVs for Ayu standards.

As I dont like Colours album, I dont really consider it PV's as bad.

XOXO wasn't my thing but at least she tried
Angel is very pretty. I would even say that I prefer that simplicity over dramatic Last minute. Last minute is boring.
Leilo may look low budget but I love her outfits and the effects.

Feel the love is a really good / well played video.

I dont really remember merry-go-round, but whatever.

Merry-go-round was her being cute with another guy with images of the city every so often. Also VERBAL stuff mixed into the album version.

Last minute was tbh very 'last minute' so it was great for what it was. She also looked gorgeous. Had the general vibe of some of her older simple PVs.

I do think since Colours, the PV game has been stepped up for sure but still not close to her 'peak' by any means. We're like at Party Queen / NEXT LEVEL level atm.

But NEXT LEVEL had the godly Sparkle PV, plus GREEN and Days. The only decent PV from Party Queen was how beautiful you are.

That said, I do think the PVs have improved since Colours. I think one of the problems now is that they're just too simple and direct. Look at some of her old PVs and there's so much more going on, so much more to interpret. Now they tend to be one simple idea for the whole video.

I would love to see her make some PVs that could compete with About you, GAME, Because of you, etc... ESPECIALLY since the new songs practically scream for that kind of video.

^ Tbh I never thought her MY STORY videos were as strong as (miss) understood's or than the ones from Memorial Address. They were all rather plain except for Moments and Walking Proud.

And nobody mentioned "Part of Me"?
Sad.
That video is so gorgeous, especially the part where she "dies" as she let's her hair down.

Sparkle PV was a mess when it was released. Everyone had high expectations and then it turned out to be a half assed version of something Lady Gaga would have done, at this time. It was not a bad PV but a lot of people were just not satisfied.
Also some reactions were hilarious. I still remember when the PV was played in a spanish club or something and some people were like "chinese puta!". Do you guys remember?

OMG I remember that lol!!! I think the issue most people had with Sparkle was that it was poorly edited but the concept was and still is pretty awesome.

About the Ballad PV I think Its a masterpiece compared to anything from the Love songs trilogy even with Shuya's ugly mug.

I thought sparkle was fine. All I can remember is people complaining about how she sang it in Japan. And the other ones who have a problem were ones who go funny about sex and stuff but that's probably because the idea for sparkle PV came from a porno if I remember the director's words
This is one of the song I can get non Japanese people to like straight away

She should not put her album development into the hands of Americans I think they are generally fine, but colours could of turned out better if it was handled by her JP team.
Think of xoxo as ayu supporting a friend who did something tough that how I explain her outfit and hair look in the pv

I never paid attention to ayu's PV's in general. Never thought they were all that good in the first place. A few gems of course, but overall? Never feel like they do the songs justice.

Her PV's from the (miss)understood era are my favorites. And the PV for ourselves is one of my favs too. Stopped watching them in full after Rock'n'Roll Circus. Just watch previews now.

Same here, kind of. (Miss)understood and Rock'n'roll Circus were great, but apart from that it's mostly an occasional great PV every once in a while. Though I did love Last minute, it was somehow disturbing to look at her in the eyes for a good 3 minutes!

Anyways, just hoping for something meaningful for Mad World, the song has some seriously activist-like lyrics.

Totally forgot about Last minute! That's definitely a standout in her recent videography.

For me, her best video from last records was Zutto... It was simple, yet very very polished.

Yes, Zutto... is one of my favorite from her last records. I love that she is frozen at the end of it. No wonder, since I'm also a fan of the crossroad PV. It might be boring but I love how she is just sitting there and slowly lighting up until she is burning completely.

I'd also like Survivor to have a PV but FLOWER and Mad World are fine too. I'm looking forward to them.

I thought she really hit her stride during Memorial address when she got three new directors to work on & PVs and from there she just had hit after hit IMO.

^yes I love part of me! I believe the clip got some love earlier in these threads, when the whole "made in Japan" concept was discussed!

^ God, 1 LOVE is such an amazing song and video. I remember my best friend at the time was more into rock so when that video came out he became obsessed.

Last minute is so haunting, I love how she looks and moves in it.

I love that it was the "should I do this?" PV from Twitter, lol.
