It depends on so many things, unless tax records are published it's more or less impossible to even estimate properly..? It would be much easier to estimate how much money an artist made for X company during his or her time.
the pay depends on what kind of arrangement the artist has with their record company, ie the specifics in the contract. This could change with time as well. It also depends on how much income the artist has outside of music related stuff (lives, concerts, record sales DVD sales related to music etc), which ayu has tons of (lending her face or name to X product for example) and how much avex gets from that. Then it depends on how the artist inverst on a personal level, whether they save or squander and how big the return is on that investment. I don't know who JYJ is but I thought korean pop groups usually were measly paid and pushed to the limit, meaning they wouldn't make much money for themselves even if they do make a lot for their company. this is apparently true to a certain extent for japanese idols and related (such as ayu was) Regardless of who has more fans, ayu has been around for such a long time and she was extremely profitable at her peak. I remember seeing (let's see if I can dig it up...) the cost of hiring X japanese artist from back in 2002 or 2003 and ayu figured at the top of the list, being just as expensive as hiring the entire Morining Musume (more than 10 girls at the time), which is the most selling japanese female idol group of all time. Even if most of the money went to avex stockholders, it's ridiculous to compare her to JYJ. You guys should read more books and think less about pop artists. ;-) |

I had no idea. It's not my kind of music at all. Regardless it seems like they were on those so called "slave contracts" which means that they got a very small share of any profits they made. This was apparently a major reason for their break up http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news...178_49540.html So very popular, but probably not very rich in monetary terms. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-13760064 |
