she should surely get enough so she's happy... she has soo much power, that avex is like her pet, if they don't give her what is meant to be given depending on sales, she might get mad and who knows what would she do xD

so yea... still a bit of a mystery thou

I dunno, I don't think she'll ever drop so far in popularity that they'll get rid of her. She is still one of their biggest sellers, and I think she'll always have that potential. It's all about the direction both avex and Ayu decide to take.

Well, about the money... I think it's safe to assume that between her status, the amount of works she puts out, and the fact that she writes all the lyrics, she must make a whooole lot more than the average artist, hah. No matter what percentage she gets.

i believe ayu was the Highest grossing female artist of the year 2000-2004,2007-08...
and will likely clinch this year's title as well..

Well... Namie's album sales are going to be higher than Next Level's... and her dvd and tour were bigger... But as far as i know, this is about who made the most money during the year... money from any source, not only music related (cuz they release it based on who paied the most taxes)

We don't really know what elso Ayu does in order to get money besides her music career, so... she can be the highest grossing...^^

Yeah, I think it's safe to say Namie Amuro will be the highest selling female because of her best DVD, but Ayumi will probably still make a decent amount more.

this is why I think it might be close - because basically anything can happen, sure, Namie sold more records this year and she performed more, but she writes way less of her music, so she probably earns less money from it and we have no idea how much the two of them earned from commercials

ayu's concert this year was the longest she's ever had! so that counts too talking about money in the commercials of the last show of AT09, they showed "30万人" if i'm not mistaken... isnt this like 300.000 people??

true... but because her concert was for like 2 years long LOL we are only counting per year according to oricon right??

EDIT: Also, namie's tour was for 2 years, but if we plus ayu's last year asia tour plus this year's tour, who had a longer run? namie or ayu?

^Namie's had 46 dates this year... Ayu's had... 36 if I'm not wrong, but it was less than 40 for sure

if u take both tours, Ayu's is bigger, but it doesn't change the fact that japanese public was more interested in seeing the same concert by Namie over and over again than they were in seeing Ayu's...

I think that most artists get their money from touring..

kind of off topic but does anyone know Koda Kumi's tour dates since 2007? (BC tour, Kingdom tour, TRICK tour) I can't find the dates anywhere. I wanna know how much she tours..

anyway, since 2007:

Ayumi;
Asia Tour '07 - 16 dates
Asia Tour '08 - 24 dates
Arena Tour '09 - 37 dates

Namie;
Play Tour '07-'08 - 65 dates (hall tour)
Best Fiction tour '08-'09 - 64 dates

Well namie's concerts are surely epic! specially that during her last one she sang mostly songs from her best of (duh xD)

maybe ayu's concerts are becoming less impressive in Japan (THATS WHY SHE GOTTA GO AND DO SOME CONCERTS OUTSIDE ASIA HM HM AUSTRALIA? HELLO??) xD

^Actually, At09 is Ayu biggest tour yet when u take number of dates into consideration... I don't really think that Japan is tired of Ayu as a performer, even if they are kinda tired of her as a musician

Koda:
Black Cherry Tour '07 - 19
Kingdom Tour '08 - 16
Trick Tour '09 - 20
