I think I've got way different tastes than most Utada fans. XD (And sorry if this conversation is over, but I can't see any of the posts on page 23 for some reason, so this is based on what I read on page 22.)

In my opinion, DEEP RIVER is Utada's best album-- but the older it gets, the harder it is for me to listen to it. I still love it though. Does that make sense? XD Anyway, I also really like Distance and This Is The One.

TITO as a whole album is awesome for me. There isn't a song I don't like, and the only song I didn't rate five stars was Automatic Part II and I think that's just because I had such high expectations for it, being the follow-up to Automatic. (I guess I should've learned from HANABI ~episode II~ that sequel songs aren't as good as the first for me. haha)

On the opposite end of the spectrum-- I dislike ULTRA BLUE and HEART STATION (which seems weird because it seems fans of DEEP RIVER love those two.) I only like the single tracks from UB (including This Is Love.) The rest of that album was a disaster for me. It was way too synthy and came off forced to me. On HEART STATION the only tracks I like are Prisoner Of Love (thanks to Last Friends) and Niji-iro BASU. The rest of the album was BLAND. Idk, I guess I'm just weird.

My favorite tracks (random XD):
Spoiler:
First Love: Automatic, Movin' on withot you
Distance: Wait & See ~Risk~, Addicted To You, Drama, Can You Keep A Secret?, HAYATOCHI-REMIX
DEEP RIVER: SAKURA Drops, traveling, Play Ball, Hikari, FINAL DISTANCE, ...just, the whole album. XD
EXODUS: You Make Me Want To Be A Man, Hotel Lobby, Tippy Toe, Devil Inside
ULTRA BLUE: This Is Love, Keep Tryin', Dareka no Negai ga Kanau Koro, Passion, Be My Last
HEART STATION: Prisoner Of Love, Niji-iro BASU
This Is The One: Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence - FYI, This One (Crying Like A Child), Me Muero, Come Back To Me, ...pretty much the whole album for this one too.

There isn't really an Utada song I really really don't like besides WINGS.

they've included her song in their request page as well

..some reason "Poppin'" is also listed ...it better not be the next single
I think A&C or FYI should be the second single

You find it harder to listen to it... probly because you've listened to it too much before (just like me..). Again DR is so far the ultimate masterpiece in her discography. Nothing beats it. If you ask the older hikki fans (like... the ones since First Love or so), probly they would say pretty similar things as well.

(And lol... actually I think HANABI~episode II~ is way better than HANABI.. dunno why )

You know what.. when UB came out, it seemed like many DR lovers didn't really like it (including myself), and people who liked UB didn't like DR that much. I love HS tho. UB and HS shared the same elements --> sync sounds driven. But UB is very complicated in terms of melody and arrangement (and probly the thoughts of the lyrics as well). I didn't really like the feeling of the album. HS is soothing on the other hand and it's nicer to listen (IMO).

But isn't that good to see each album has its own worshipers? I would feel bad if all the fans ditch a particular album from hikki..

I agree that DEEP RIVER by far is THE masterpiece in hikki's discography.
It's such an awesome album!!!

In UB and HS case, I really liked ULTRA BLUE and I didn't like HEART STATION (except for 5 songs).
In ULTRA BLUE I liked that it's really sophisticated and each track had a great individuality (which might be bad for some) but I really like a lot of the songs from there (and Passion is my favorite song of hikki).
HEART STATION was too bland, too easy listening that I tried to listen to it as a whole a few good times but didn't pay attension to it while I did it.
It still has great songs like FoL, PoL, Beautiful World, Kiss & Cry and teiku 5 (but that's all for me).
HEART STATION is her weakest album since FoL imo and I wish that in the next, if she will keep the etheral pop I would like it to be more than UB-DR or a new way to convey it, since another too easy listening album that it's just there would really dissapoint.

DEEP RIVER is probably the best Hikki album has made so far, it was released a little after I became a fan, so yeah most of the older fans I know do agree with this too. I did love ULTRA BLUE a lot cuz I like the fact the songs were sync-y, while HEART STATION has 2 songs I detest (Niji-iro busu and Celebrate), while I only found One night magic annoying on UB (mostly because of ultra idiotic Motto motto chorus).

HANABI ~episode II~ owns HANABI, it's way better in all aspects ^_^

To me, Hikki's masterpiece is HS....
I really like all of her albums... but to me, this one have a maturity that the other ones didn't have...

Deep River have awsome music, but I can't feel it as a whole... IMO sounds like a lot of good tracks on the same disc

Well concerning just "DEEP RIVER", "ULTRA BLUE", "HEART STATION" and "This Is The One"; I like all of them.

I don't really like to speak for other Utada followers because everybody likes different things regardless of their "Era".

I totally disagree (and I've been a fan since around Distance). I think DR is tied with First Love for her worst overall album. The strange thing is that I consider it to be her greatest singles era... "SAKURA Drops", "Hikari", "traveling", "Letters" and "FINAL DISTANCE" are some of her best singles ever. But it's the album tracks that really lack anything special, IMO. "Tokyo Nights" is irritating, "Play Ball", "ASAP", and "Shiawase ni Narou" are all boring/sound too similar, and I can't even make a comment on "Usomitai na I LOVE YOU." What a mess of a CD. Honestly, it's easier for me to just listen to the Singles Collection if I wanna hear the listenable part of DEEP RIVER.

For me, ULTRA BLUE is muchhhhh better. Distance too. HEART STATION is a zillion times better as well. I will, unfortunately, never understand the love for DEEP RIVER that such a huge percentage of her fanbase has.

^you're actually really right...imo anyway.

The album tracks ARE some of her worst...it's why it's never the top on my list.

but you know...It's probably because I'm different...I really fell in love with her when ultra blue came out. And looking back...I really feel like her newer albums are more put together than the old ones. Even Distance seems messy to me.

I guess I just prefer her newer stuff, except for the singles. Her single tracks are just stellar...but as far as her old album tracks go...not really...for me I guess.

I guess for some of us it was the first full JPOP album we've heard. I personally liked Usomitaina I love you as before that only Kettobase! was the only Hikki song that had a real rock hook. I do agree that Shiawase ni narou is annoying xD though I like the way it starts but gets to repetative somehow. Deep River was an amazing song too. I do agree that the album is a genre mess. ULTRA BLUE had a better flow.

Agree, even tho I'm kinda surprised that some of you could dislike DR to that level LOL.

Come thinking about that.. I actually like Distance the least. It has good album songs and really good single songs, somehow I dun really feel there's a theme except "this is an R&B" album. Yes First Love is an R&B album as well but hikki gave her full youthful attack to this album. Everything she wrote in the album was very "pure and innocent". It's like she tried to express what she felt as a 15 or 16.

DEEP RIVER is a masterpiece (to me) because
- the album itself is sophisticate. There are lots of deep level thoughts in the lyrics
- the arrangements of the songs are so different, yeah they combine together and the album flows extremely well
- Hikki looked so pretty on the cover... and the cover tells the direction the album would deliver.
- the trilogy is inside the album .
- Deep River is inside the album .

I'm too sleepy to go on about UB and HS. Let the UB lovers tells how great the album is, and probly I can discover some more values from your points . (I dun really need someone to remind me about HS. For me HS stays on no. 2 on my fav hikki album charts ).

Well I love DEEP RIVER in fact the songs are good and she looks cute in that era...
But my favorite Hikki's album ever is ULTRA BLUE the most incredible thing I ever heard *_*
Then HS and Distance... but Distance is not so good imo o.oU

(off topic: I miss you guys!!!! T_T)

I love Ultra Blue as well. But I think Deep River is maybe an easier album to "catch new fans" with, than UB or HS, because they are more complexe sounding in a way.. Kinda hard to explain.
