I just think that the thing was that she wouldn't rub a guy's...or have her songs banned due to dirty lyrics from Kuu.

Although it should be noted that I love Kuu to death. JUICY was AWESOME and Ima Sugu Hoshii was great too

1. I cant defend her for JUCY...
2. Ima Sugu Hoshii isn't even her song, its simply a cover... and the song wasn't even banned for that long... It was banned before it was released and a month or two after it was actually released...

Well I don't care if it was banned or not but to some people, the fact that is was banned at all for any period of time is enough.

Either way, Kumi is Kumi and Maki is Maki. She isn't the "back-up" Kumi or "Kumi 2.0" or whatever.

To say that Maki is the new Kuu, is not completely uncalled for...

You never know what Avex is going to do...They are losing munny with koda, and she isnt as popular as she once was.

It's not like she will be the same or anything...but to completely deny that Avex might be using her for the same purpose...well that's just being a little naive.

If they start marketing the hell out of her, like they seem to like to do...then you might have to watch out. If Maki is a huge success at the hands of Avex it can either be a wonderful thing, or something she'd never expected.

Well it's not like I'm saying I don't understand where the claims are coming from cause I do but I mean what does being the new Kuu mean? Being sexy? Cause other artists have done that before. I mean Namie has her sexier songs recently and she's not the next Kuu or anything.
I'm going to assume people mean that the level of sexiness that Kuu took it to is the basis for comparison. Well just because she's on avex now and has been doing some stuff, doesn't mean we're gonna get the same level of sexiness. She could just be her own sexy without going to that level and thus wouldn't be the next Kuu?

It doesnt mean that maki will be new kuu if she is in rhytm zone and will make same kind of music.

No, they just mean in how Avex, sort of "used" kuu to make that much munny...

Now, she may become the next kuu, in that they would "use" her to make munny...in the same way i think...

which means huge marketing campaigns, all those releases...perhaps a new image? all those things that Avex does best.

Well...its just that...the way kuu became popular (most people believe) is through her image, and that i guess would translate into sales...and therefore munny...

so some people would probably propose the same for maki, since it is sort of a sure way to make munny...especially since she already is popular...and...i think she does have some interest in pumping up her image a bit...It seems that both the artist and the label have to benefit from Maki going down the "sexy" route.

Why would Avex object something that would probably earn them a lot...

of course this is all speculation...we have yet to see how much attention they pay to her.

I do think that her ero-kakkoi image got her noticed more but looking at sales, her sexier singles didn't really beat out her other ones.

So I agree that Maki seems interested in getting away from her old cute image in order to be taken seriously as a "Real artist" and from pics we're getting, it looks like we'll see sexy Maki. However...I know a lot of fans on forums and stuff are dying for a return to ero-kakkoi from Kumi but it seems like the fans in Japan aren't going for it. Thus would having Maki go sexy really help them profit? Luckily she's already built a name for herself so it's not like they are starting from scratch. It's a lot to wonder about but namely, Maki is Maki and Kumi is Kumi. There is no second Kumi...she's the one and only. As for Maki, I think we need to see how well the 1st single does. If it does gain popularity, then of course avex will attempt to capitalize on it but if not...

I agree with you about the kuu being the one and only...it's just...i don't know, i can't speak for all people, but i think it's just like, an expression to describe what they think may befall maki.

But you're also right about kuu's ero-kakkoi image...It seems...after my friend went there, that most people think she's a ****?

And yeah, she has lost popularity, but perhaps they attribute it to other factors, and not really the image itself.

One way or another, maki does seem to be moving in the direction, and while of course, the same things won't happen to her, you can't help people being scared for her especially when they have animosity towards the image to begin with, and they want her to be all cutesy whatever you call it, and keep her image.

But I mean...it's just not going to happen.

oh yeah, I totally agree with you. People see it for Maki but whatever, I can't change their minds and they are free to have their opinions

We'll just see when her first single comes out...

Well as for Kumi [and I don't wanna go too far out of the original purpose of this thread], her dirtier side stands particularly for overseas fans and the image itself projected her as being different for her. I'm sure people think she goes to far but I have no problem with it. I applaud her for following the image that she wants to go to though by going away from the whole ero-kakkoi thing. Her popularity loss...I would say the constant releases might bug some people [although she's slowing things down] and of course the scandal. Black Cherry sold the million mark so I pretty much say the scandal kinda...
FREAKY and Ai no Uta were successful in their own rights
