Billboard itself wrote an article about how Mimi will probably get the #1 spot next week on their Hot 100 Singles Chart! If she gets that position, it will push her ahead of Elvis for the second highest number of #1s ever, only behind the Beatles!:

Quote:
Mariah Closing In On Record For No. 1 Hits
Mariah Carey is on track to collect her 18th No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart next week.

"Touch My Body," the first single from her upcoming album, dipped one place to No. 15 on the latest survey. But the fresh availability of a digital download should send the song hurtling to the top next week.

That will push Carey to second place among artists with the most No. 1s in the rock era. The record is held by the Beatles with 20; Carey is currently tied with Elvis Presley.

Carey's album, "E=MC2," the follow-up to her 2005 Grammy-winning smash "The Emancipation of Mimi," arrives April 15 via Island Def Jam.

Asked recently by Billboard if she ever thinks about surpassing the Beatles' record, Carey admitted with a laugh, "I do, because people bring it up. But it's not like I sit around thinking about that type of stuff while I'm creating something. I did write this record in terms of wanting it to be a lot of songs that could potentially be singles, because people like that."

"I think it would be phenomenal," Island Def Jam Music Group chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid says of the prospect. "But the real goal is to create music the whole world can sing. And if we break records and set some milestones while doing that, that would be beautiful."

Note: The final Billboard position for "Touch My Body" will be published on Wednesday.

I think Touch My Body is alright. It's definitely not a Mariah classic, but then again, nothing on Mimi was either. Hopefully there are some really good hits on E=MC2. I do like the cover because the font is really nice and she looks nice in the feathery garment.

Not true. It has yet to be decided currently. As a longtime Mariah fan, I know that at least 2 or 3 singles get mentioned by Mariah and/or the label before one is chosen.

Carey confirmed in a radio interview in late March 2008 that the song (Bye Bye) will be the official second single from her upcoming album E=MC˛.[1] Carey also announced she might sing it on her performance on Idol Gives Back.

I think "Migrate feat T-Pain" will be the second US single, I think they'll release a club track next rather than another mid-tempo song ...

it's just my guess tho. she releases different singles in different regions too though.

"Touch My Body" is Mariah's 18th #1!

Congratulations Mariah! The explosive new single "Touch My Body" is Mariah's emancipated 18th! The song is the new #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart (issue date: April 12, 2008), getting Mariah to break the tie with Elvis for most #1s by a solo artist in the rock era.

More about "Touch My Body"
• This week marks 78 cumulative weeks for Mariah at the #1 spot on the Hot 100. She is only 2 weeks behind Elvis Presley who holds the all-time record!

• As a songwriter, Mariah breaks the tie with Barry Gibb and takes the 3rd place for songwriters with most #1 hits. Only Paul McCartney with 32 and John Lennon with 26 have more.

• With 286,000 downloads, "Touch My Body" breaks the record for the first-week sales of a digital single! Not only is it Mariah's best single-week digital tally, it also breaks Mariah's previous first-week sales of a single ("Heartbreaker" debuted in 1999 with 271,000 copies sold.)

• "Touch My Body" debuted on the Hot 100 in the Billboard Issue of March 1, 2008. This is its 7th week on the Hot 100 chart and here is the chart run for the song so far: 57-34-24-16-14-15-01

• "Touch My Body" was first premiered on American radio on Tuesday, February 12, 2008. In about 6 hours, the song was played approximately 500 times in different radio stations across the US. It also had the biggest first week airplay since Mariah's "I'll Be There" in 1992. The song quickly exploded in all four major radio formats (Top 40 Mainstream, Rhythmic/Crossover, Urban, Adult R&B) and after only five weeks, it entered the top 10 in each format and reached #4 on the Hot 100 Airplay.

• The fun music video, directed by Brett Ratner, premiered on BET/MTV/VH1 on February 27 and quickly became the most viewed video on YouTube, Yahoo and AOL Music as well as the highest ranked video on the TRL and 106 & Park countdowns.

I understand, but I'm just saying that no one should take what she says for full value.... she always changes her mind She's unpredictable, that's why I love her!

International superstar Mariah Carey reaches a once-in-a-lifetime career achievement as her current single "Touch My Body" goes to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week and becomes her 18th career #1 hit -- surpassing one of the most enduring chart records in Billboard Hot 100 history, Elvis Presley's 17 #1's. Mariah is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 50 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to surpass the Beatles' all-time high of 20 #1 hits.

"Touch My Body" takes over #1 with an all-time record-setting 286,000 debut week at #1 on the Billboard hot digital songs chart, and a Hot 100 Airplay radio audience now over 115 million. The video, directed by feature filmmaker Brett Ratner, and featuring a cameo by Jack McBrayer (30 Rock's Kenneth Parcell), stays at #1 on the Yahoo Music Video Chart, Yahoo Launchcast and AOL. And Mariah's widget has been viewed over 4.26 million times!

"Touch My Body" is the first smash from Mariah's highly anticipated hot new album "E=MC2," arriving in stores April 15th. Pre-orders are now underway for "E=MC2," with iTunes customers receiving "Touch My Body" instantly with their pre-order.
Mariah hit #1! And she surpassed Elvis Yay.

I didn't really love 90s Mariah, but I do think it's great that she's managed to return to the top after her breakdown. She has the voice, she works with the right people, and her new #1 is a big achievement when so many pop artists self-destruct and never get back up after a few years in the business.

Does she still have the voice? I wonder if she's restraining it in her new songs, or just doesn't have it anymore. =[ I would like to see her use her voice to its full potential, even though I do like her current style, I want to see her belt it out.

I think she realizes that over singing is very real, and she doesn't to do that to fans (like Christina Aguilera does). Plus, hip-hop right now is all about light and airy voices, not big booming ones like she had back in the 90s. But if you listen to her non-singles tracks, you'll see she's still got the voice!
