As far as the sunglasses, I think that while they're associated w/Lady Gaga, Gaga's just taking them from what's been in high fashion for several years now. It looks cool, but it's not a particularly original fashion statement anymore, I've seen it a lot of times (just not on celebrities).

Lady Gaga is following a trend that has been in the making for years.... that's why people are saying Christina Aguilera is copying her and visa versa. Neither are copying each other. It's just that they both have a brain and can figure out where pop art is headed. Gaga constantly says her inspiration is from Madonna and David Bowie etc (as in a lot of stuff from the 80s). She's totally inspired from 80s and 70s but making it fresh... which is awesome and exactly what we need.

I think rather than Ayu saying 'Oh I should get on the bandwagon' it's more she saw an opportunity for a sexy PV like that and Gaga is the first one who comes to mind to people. I think the latex suit is much closer to Britney's a few years back than Gaga's. (Not to mention all of Gaga's outfits are leotards, I've never seen her in a full body one)
Sorry to be fueling a debate on Lady Gaga and getting off topic.....

BUT, no you would not see the sunglasses Lady Gaga wears on her album cover anywhere else because half the things she wears she makes herself or finds in stores that sell vintage clothing that's not made anymore. Those specific crystal sunglasses were made...or rather modified by Gaga though (i'm sure they're 70's Versace or maybe Picasso). Yes futuristic style is not a new thing, but Lady Gaga tends to amp it up and throw it in our faces more than other pop artists. I agree though, she is following a trend, but she's setting one too and making it fresh and transforming it into her own thing and like you said, it's much needed nowadays.

If you saw a post I made in another thread though, I pointed out that the red latex suit Ayu's wearing in the PV is exactly like Britney's from the Oops I Did It Again video. Lady Gaga hadn't even come to my mind until someone else pointed it out. But yeah, Ayu, just like all of the major pop stars, knows what's hot right now and she simply decided to use that.

Also, if you watch the video for Poker Face, Lady Gaga is wearing an almost (there are no sleeves, it goes over her shoulder) full body vinyl suit, which isn't as rare as you think, she does tend to wear outfits other than leotards. Those are just more prevalent in her wardrobe. So yeah that's my 2 cents.

I really like both of the PV's, especially Curtain Call because I think while she's walking through the stage set, it's going through some parts of the different PV's that she's done over the years like HANABI ~episode II~, No way to Say, Pride, Carols and some other ones in there. I found it to be a unique ballad PV.

i think LittleDebbie has some good points. i don't really see how ayu is copying lady gaga. like she said those particular glasses are a trend in high fashion and i've also seen other artists & models wear similar ones. you just don't usually see the average person on the street wearing them. and since lady gaga is kind of known for wearing this style, you see ayu in it and think she's copying.

even if lady gaga takes those glasses and adds her own designs onto them to make them unique, it's not like she created that particular large shape and style of sunglasses. you know what i mean?

i'm not denying the fact that ayu possibly knows who lady gaga is. she might, she might not. so if this PV was to show music then (in the 80's) and music now, then i guess it was possible that ayu looked at the top sexy artists of today and used their fashion sense in "Sparkle".

Curtain Call is simple, and for me surprisingly i like it. lol the four seasons theme is so cool!

honestly i dont know about what everyone else is saying about contrasting the two music times

but i feel that sparkle
is about how that idol in the 80s, while shes singing in her mind thats what was goign on lol

SPARKLE is amazing.. the song is addictive.. it keep playing over and over in my head..
the video is wicked.. fresh.. nice editing and good concept..

yes it reminds me of madonna.. "human nature"

Curtain Call PV is to plain.. need the X factor to lift up the video

My observation of Sparkle PV.

Spoiler:
The Sparkle PV represents not all women are just pure cuteness or beauty but they had the "power" within them.

The Cutesy Ayu part represents how the women appears on everyday lives.

The red Latex Ayu represents strength and courage.
The purple Latex Ayu represent the fierceness.
The black latex Ayu represents the women can be serious and have a power or mysterious.

I wish someone would get this director an editing program. Sparkle is growing on me, but it could have been so much better if the shots were mixed up. I scanned the posts but I didnt see anything about what the response in Japan was for this PV. Does anyone know what the Japanese public thinks about Sparkle?

@ the comments...

THE GLASSES? Seriously? Um honestly...I think Ayu just wanted some black glasses that covered her face lol

Besides...lets just agree to blame it on the director...since that's the conclusions everyone's going to make anyway HE'S probably the one who saw the Lady Gaga MVs.

You know it's true

Anyway...actually sparkle really reminded me of TABOO in a few places...Ayu can MOVE! But some of the poses...were yeah...off...

Btw...did she ever say anything about the PV? Is that where everyone's getting the aidoru stuff from? Because someone else off the forum said it too...but...I'm probably just not up to date with news lol

Hmm. How did I know she was going to be in latex in Sparkle PV? I guess it was the Rule / Sparkle cover. That PV was everything I anticipated it to be, except maybe the beginning. I really loved how they made it look like she was on a music show. She looked great! As for the rest of the PV...it felt like a rehash of Startin' and Real me. Those gas masks reminded me very much of Real me. I can swear she's almost wearing the same latex as in Startin'. The PV was pretty straightforward and typical for the most part. I thought it fit the atmosphere of the song very well. They could have done it with her in a night club...similar to something Kuu did with Amai Wana. That could have turned out to be something good I think. Lol @ her riding the guy near the end. That was pretty awesome haha.

As for Curtain Call, I actually like the concept behind the PV. It's like the filming of the PV within the actual PV. Fits the idea of the whole "Curtain Call" thing very well I think. Just something about it flowed very well with the title of the song. The whole atmosphere in general. Those sparklers were very beautiful. I noticed she was wearing a very snug fit dress...pushing her breasts up as a result. Guess that whole thing is here to stay now and this PV confirms it for me. No shoes either eh? I can see why people said the song was similar in regards to Close to you and teddy bear. There's a very similar atmosphere about all these songs. I'm a big sucker for pianos and this song is no exception. The piano in this was very beautiful. I can't say for sure yet if it's on the same level as something like JEWEL. Have to give it a few more listens. The choir definitely gave this song a boost in power and it's a welcome addition. I don't really like to bring in other artists since I myself have said I don't like comparisons but it really felt similar to something Kuu has done. Maybe people who listen to her can understand what I'm trying to get it. And of course, in no way is this a bad thing.

EDIT: Looking back on the PV, Ayumi_Hamasaki902 has a very interesting thought about Curtain Call. I can see the resemblance. CAROLS would be in the beginning, followed by No way to say, HANABI ~episode II~, and finally PRIDE at the very end. Dunno if this was her intention but it bought back some nice memories. No wonder it felt so familiar.

okay...

Sparkle dissapointed me a lot. it looked cheap & I hated this latex look
but it was freaky at the same time, and I love the song, so I'll forget that, although I think it's really bad

Curtain Call looks beautiful but boring. I also think the camera shots aren't good, her outfit & the whole look looks bad, maybe because of the shots, but she looks really short with awkward figure, imho, not fond of it, and the song is unoriginal

Ahh! I totally forgot about the wetsuit! Thanks for reminding me! I guess I was thinking of her live performances, and she said she didn't like dancing in pants or something?

What;s the big deal about saying she got the glasses from lady gaga. i have no problem with it, she used Britney spears and missy elliot as inspirations for Startin. Like is it really that big of a deal to say she may ahve gotten it from lady Gaga? Like not saying shes stealing or anything, but it wouldn't be the first time she used something from another atist in her Pvs. Its not stealing at all, I actually love to see her use other singers stuff occasionaly.

Haha and I love how its always blamed on the director. half the people here don't even know what a director's job is...

I didn't like Sparkle. I thought it had amazing visual aspects, great colours and I loved the beginning. But, Ayu's whole "sexy" dancing kind-of creeped me out. To me, it was a little borderline ****ty. But, I loved her with dark hair.

Curtain Call was calm, but wasn't memorable. It was nice, her just singing, driving, and walking. But it's no Mirrorcle World you know, with the huge red dress, in partial black and white, with the doves, and the hair, and in PARIS.

xD

A lot of questions about the "Curtain call" PV were answered in the "making of." I like that she decided to change the dress and not wear shoes. It must be hard having to make sure you do things perfect the first or second time because you don't get many chances to make mistakes.

I really enjoyed the "making of" of "Sparkle" too.

wow I didn't think about that while I was watching the pv (first time today). I really love the scenes and the one shot concept... But something bugs me.. When ayu lip-synced in the video, she didn't really match the breathing time. Or when the word she sang in the end should be open mouth, she closed her lips too quickly.. That's the tiny thing I wish she would correct. But overall I really love this pv.

Sparkle was hot, and i liked ayu's suits and the gas masks and stuff. she wasn't over the top sexy, so i thought it was kinda cute and funny. i didn't care for the contrast of the cute ayu in the beginning to the fierce black haired one though, meh.
Curtain Call is like Voice Within, but i love both songs. I feel that the song and video were kinda underwhelming, but the song is definitely gonna be something sung live.

I don’t speak to you because I think you’re selfish
Can’t there be an easier way?

My mind trespasses a vacant heart
But it soon learns of the orphan of secrets
Held inside
Why can’t I just foster my emotions
Like you had
Like all of you had?

In the stormy season
We often admire the rain
Why is it so admirable?
What’s so blissful about crying skies?
Nothing’s blissful about running mascaras
And gasping orbs of emotion
Smeared liner of depression
Drenched cheeks with forged smiles

The colder it is
The warmer we truly feel, right?
So can’t you just accept the secrets
And put away the selfish mindset
Because I can’t do the same thing.
