Illegal?
What videos is actually illegal uploading?
PVs? making of? CMs? Lives? Interviews? AyuReady? Edit: What about photobooks, booklest etc.? Is it illegal to upload a live song, if it's only 1 song itself? Or if it isn't from a DVD?

hmm PVs and making of for sure, since you can buy the CD+DVD version of albums...but about the rest i'm not really sure @_@
i would think everything related to ayu is illegal since you don't own the copyrights to those videos

But is it illegal if you can't buy it? Like TV performances?

I would say anything that is copyrighted by avex would be illegal.

well just think of the kinds of videos that avex make youtube delete and live performances are one of them, the copyrights of everything ayumi hamasaki still belong to avex~

Then the question is: What is copyrighted?

so ayu is the creator of her music, but she's owned by avex, so whatever ayu produce, sing live, it's avex's

Yes, uploading ANYTHING is forbidden, even uploading CMs, because the company for which the CMs are have the rights on them, TV-Lives are illegal because the Channel(or show) has the rights, PV rights are by avex, making-of rights are by avex, concert-rights(even if its only 10 seconds) are by avex, interview-rights are usually owned by the paper/show that makes the interview, ayuready shows are probably by avex, too and photobooks are either by the photographer and avex pays for each printing of it or avex bought them from the photographers

The only thing that would be legal is if you took video of ayu yourself when meeting her (not during a concert or anything).

Hmm yeah...you don't want avex coming after you. I'm sure you'd get a warning but do at your own risk.

It would probably depend on how much and what is uploaded, if you upload whole dvds in high quality and avex finds out about it...you can be pretty sure your going to prison or gotta pay MUCH money(possibly several thousends) but if its a pv in low quality theyll probably just send you a message asking you to take it off the internet

Don't worry, you can upload (with restriction).
If you look at the wikipedia page for Ayu, they used pictures and music samples. The pictures are not in its original size and quality. The music samples are very short and the quality is low. All these are copyrighted but their use are not illegal because the nature of it is to just inform the reader, rather than to simply copy and upload the original for everyone to download. This is an example of "fair use". Another example is everyone's avatar or signature here with pictures. All of these in some degree are copyrighted. But we can excercise our right to fair use by making the image smaller with lesser quality and with lots of modification. (Though uploading the original image here is illegal). If you want to make a legit website, ask yourself if its of fair use. You can use short samples from songs with lesser quality. The same goes for images (photobooks, magazines, booklets, etc.). You can transform the music into midi files (I haven't seen those in a while). You can make your own covers and remixes or take others if you have their permission. If you know music, sheet music is fine. You can make your own avatars or custom signatures or flash animation. You can take a few screenshots of a live concert or of a CM, but with small size and less quality. Or you can do the same with Ayuready and make a summary of what happened in the episode. Yes, you can upload these things depending on how you use it. The following site is about copyright and fair use. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJn_jC4FNDo This is actually an informative comedy. The video is made up of entirely of copyrighted characters and clips from movies. However, the nature of this video is totally different from its original that the company, in this case Disney, cannot sue the maker of this video. I hope this helps. The concept of fair use is a tricky subject since it is a gray area between what's legal and not legal. Because of that, it is a very common dispute in court. For a real life current example... Spoiler:
Just keep in mind copyright laws may be different from country to country. I'm speaking from the U.S. |

Looking at your location, and the fact that there are tons of sites to which to download discographys and such...
I'd say, you're fine. They will not send you to jail, maybe if you were located in Japan. If that were true, AHS would have been gone years ago. Think about what we do here. Everything here is illegal, down to the translated TA messages and maybe even the mag scans.
