Actor-singer Tomohisa Yamashita is most-followed Japanese male artist on Instagram

Japanese talent agency Johnny & Associates used to ban its artists from having social media accounts.

However, it relented in May last year (2019) and actor-singer Tomohisa Yamashita was its first artist to set up an Instagram account. It attracted more than 1 million followers in one day.

On Saturday (June 13), the 35-year-old heart-throb became the first Japanese male artist to attract more than 5 million followers on Instagram.

After Yamashita, other artists under Johnny also set up their Instagram accounts, including singer-actor Takuya Kimura and boy band Arashi.

Kimura has 2.4 million followers on Instagram so far, while Arashi have 4.2 million followers.

Japanese comedian Naomi Watanabe is the top female artist in Japan, with more than 9.4 million followers on her account.

Yamashita, who is in the international thriller series The Head (2020), recently posted a few photos of himself visiting the United States last year. He wrote, "I took these photos a year ago. I hope that a bright future will come, just like this time."

Yamashita, who was a former member of idol group News, came to prominence after acting in the television series Kurosagi (2006), an adaptation of a best-selling manga of the same title.

He has also acted in the popular TV series Code Blue and its movie, which was Japan's top-grossing domestic film of 2018.

Johnny's special unit "Twenty ★ Twenty" announces charity song "smile" release details

As announced, Johnnys office will be forming a limited time unit “Twenty★Twenty” which consists of 75 people from 15 groups to release a charity song titled “smile”. The song will be distributed on June 22 and is scheduled for a CD release on on August 12. It will be available for a limited until December 31st.

This music release is part of the Johnny’s office “Smile Up! Project” being conducted to help prevent the spread of new coronavirus infections. The song is written by Mr.Children’s Sakurai Kazutoshi. Profits from the release will be donated for medical care support.

The CD release will also include “Wash Your Hands”, a song featured in the groups’ hand washing videos. The bonus DVD includes “smile” video clips, recording documentaries, and “smile” lyric videos.

I'm not well informed the last I knew from him is that she dated AKB48's Kashigawi Yuki. Did he did something incorrect apart from this?

A bit early in the COVID pandemic I believe he went to a party despite lockdown/stay at home orders. He was then put on a suspension or something at that time because of his actions and then it resulted in the outright departure a while after.

Johnny's announced on May 26 that Tegoshi would go on hiatus from the entertainment industry. The announcement confirmed an unspecified weekly publication's prior allegations that Tegoshi had attended a drinking party with numerous women in Tokyo in late April, when the country was still under a state of emergency and advising people to avoid large social gatherings. However, the announcement claimed that certain details in the report were inaccurate. The announcement added that the company had been advising Tegoshi to be careful with his actions, but that he "failed to understand."
