K-Pop MV recommendations needed for a college program
Hey guys!
I am hosting a Korean Pop Culture Night at my school and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for music videos and K-drama/K-movie teasers I could show during my presentation. The purpose of my International Music Nights series will be to give my residents a much needed exposure to world music. This month, I am obviously focusing on Korean pop music. I have a fairly general idea of what artists to include (BoA, TVXQ, BIG BANG, 2NE1...), but I was wondering if there were any other musical acts that should be included in this program. Thanks a bunch! =D |

I'm not too much into K-Pop. But do you really think introducing them to the most generic music will give them a good image of it? What BoA, TVXQ, BIG BANG, 2NE1 and so on do is, while incredibly catchy, practically all the same, why not take only one or two of those and then some people that produce a different style of pop? Else they might get bored and think of K-Pop as...all sounding the same.

^ Well, I'm partially agree with you tho excuse me, KPop is not sounding the same
BoA could represent solo singers, others are like Lee Hyori, Rain and Son Dambi TVXQ could be substitute with Super Junior, SHINee, B2ST and so on BIG BANG and 2NE1 are like twins Maybe you should include groups like Brown Eyed Girls, CNBLUE, 2AM, Girls' Generation, T-ara, miss A, Wonder Girls, Secret so that your Kpop repertoire is more varied and wide In any case you can put indies and drama singers like Alex, Clazziquai Project, Nell, Boohwal, Loveholic, Dear cloud and so on I think you could choose one or two to represent boyband music, solo music, girlband music, indie music, rock etc ![]() Good luck! I never said KPop sounds all the same, I said with that selection of music the audience will get to that conclusion. Because the few artists that were listed all do the very same genre and style of music. It's like presenting western pop by showing Katy Perry, Rihanna and Lady Gaga or J-Pop with Morning Musume and AKB48. Sure they are big but only showing them makes it seem very one-dimensional and all the same.

You should probably do artists who are more relevant... BoA isn't relevant anymore, and TVXQ aren't as "cool and trendy" as they used to be.
I would say pick one SM group, if any (since all their music for the past year is pretty much the same anyways). SNSD might be a good choice to show off the "cute" side of k-pop with a song like Gee or OH! But if you put something cutesy in, try to stick it like somewhere in the middle so if people don't like it, they'll be less likely to remember it and base their opinion on k-pop off it, lol. 2NE1 or BIGBANG (one or the other) is good for the 2NE1/BB style. Please just, if you pick 2NE1, DON'T show them I AM THE BEST. I'm not kidding, only 2NE1 fans like that song. Show them a song where the chorus isn't just the same 3 words repeated over and over again. If it were me, I'd pick Can't Nobody. ![]() Since 2PM is one of the strongest groups as far as dancing goes, one of their MVs with good choreography would be ideal for showing off the dancing aspect of k-pop. T-ara would be good for the sexy, electropop, trendy side. I also kind of agree with the CNBlue suggestion, just to show a more pop/rock side. ![]() If you want to go with a solo artist, I would say Lee Hyori (even though out of BoA/Dambi/Hyori, she's my least favorite). She's probably the one that would be most popular with Americans who aren't really into Asian music or style. U-Go-Girl might be good, since it's really catchy (and unlike Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, wouldn't get her called a Lady Gaga wannabe, lol). Try to pick things that are... optimally suited for American tastes. You want to show off real k-pop style, but you don't want people to be turned off by how effeminate the guys can be, weird make-up, etc. 2PM or BIGBANG would be a good choice for boy bands because they have a more manly image in their videos, whereas SHINee would be a really bad choice (I CONSTANTLY overhear all my male friends talking about how "gay" they think SHINee look in their MVs). BEAST or MBLAQ might be a safe "in between" choice, not too effeminate or too manly. I hope that helps. ![]() |

Isn't U-Go-Girl the video promoting plastic surgery? Please, please don't show that video -.-

^ Promoting? No. There's like, literally three seconds of anything remotely plastic surgery and it is VERY, VERY, VERY tongue-in-cheek. The doctor has pigtails and huge white sunglasses for crying out loud.
Just because it has a plastic surgery reference does not mean it's promoting it. Don't take everything for face value. |

In the video a girl has plastic surgery so a guy will like her, how is that not promoting plastic surgery? No matter how short and tongue-in-cheek that part is - do you think every little girl watching it in Korea will see it as that? I don't think so...They will watch it and see it as what is shown.
Then again...they all have the same nose in K-Pop anyways so I guess it's normal there... ![]() |

I would not recommend using Hyo Ri as example. Don't get me wrong, I am a fan, but what if the audience wants to know more about her and you have to talk about all the plagiarism problems she has?
![]() BoA, while not currently active in Korea, is still a much better choice since she has accomplished so much to the point that she *is* a KPop icon. You can also use her to illustrate Korea's eagerness to export its culture to other countries like Japan and the USA since she's had debuts in both. |

Your whole post is hilarious, thanks for making me laugh. You like to insult people don't you?
What do you think is the reason I say "they all got the same nose"? It's not because I can't tell asian people apart(why would I even be on this forum if it were like that?). It's not because I "hate K-Pop oh so much" or want to preach something. It's because I see the pop idols in Korea and realize how many of those had plastic surgery. Especially on their nose. It's not too different in the western world either, you find few people in pop that never have anything done, especially as they grow older, half of Britney's face is practically new, Madonna, Mylene and Celine look like they are wearing masks, but it always strikes me especially in K-Pop since they seem to have lots of things done before they get succesful rather than after(there isn't much of an after anyways, how many people are still relevant >30 in actual pop?) Which I guess is part of the "training" many K-Pop idols, solo or group, undergo as teenagers before debuting. So based on an elemental difference between the industries. A difference I don't see as bad thing in itself. Dancing, singing, maybe some acting and, of course, if needed a few changes to looks. And please note that I am not against plastic surgery, I think it's something great. I'm just against those trends that use it to achieve a "perfect" face. |

Like always, pulling out when they realize what kind of ******** they've been talking...before their perfect image they've build up shatters.
But I'm more comfortable on your ignore list, then I'll never have you responding to my posts again so I won't have to deal with it again. |

You could use Harisu. The transsexual (although he prefers to be called a she) singer who was mildly popular in the early 200s.
Harisu - Foxy Lady And there's Lady, which is transsexual girl group made after the success of Harisu. Lady - Attention (sexy version)
