Kahala Tomomi to perform at FNS

So... I don't know if anyone hear listens to, cares for, or knows who Kahala Tomomi is, but she was super popular in the late 90's for, really, only about 2 years.

She was part of the Komuro Tetsuya family and was once dating Komuro. Her stage name was even changed from her original name in order to share the same initials as Komuro. After their split personally and musically, her popularity sharply dropped and she had suicide attempts, she started abusing drugs, and she started not showing up to gigs. (This, of course, over many years). She became a tabloid staple.

A few years ago, she was dropped by her talent agency for failing to show up to scheduled shows, and then last year? or 2 years ago? She was found to have taken tranquilizers? by a taxi driver and she was in the news again.

Since then, she's been in recovery and she's be scheduled to perform at FNS this year!

She stated in some interviews that singing is all that she has left and this is her last chance.

There was also an article on Oricon that talked to Komuro and Keiko (of globe, his wife) as to whether or not Komuro has any hand in Tomomi's comeback song, which is rumored to be out in 2013, and he denied anything, but the article says that Keiko said it was coming along and she said it with a smile. However, I personally don't know if this can be trusted... lol

ANYWAY, if you're a fan of Komuro and/or 90's Jpop, I suggest you look her up.

Suggested songs: hate tell a lie, I'm Proud, I BELIEVE, Save your dream, tumblin' dice, keep yourself alive

Personally, I'm super excited to see how this pans out.

Yep, I remember her. I liked a lot of her songs. We'll see how it goes though, kinda expecting a train wreck.

Wow~ I didn't know all that drama happened with her.

I tried to listen to her 90s stuff way back when. That was when I pretty much discovered I hate TK and 90s jpop though lol

But cool for her at FNS. I hope she looks good and does well.

Oh wow, tumblin' dice was one of the first Jpop songs I ever listened too

I knew about some of the drama surrounding her, but not the full extent! I hope her FNS performance goes well.

lol. And for me Hate to Tell a Lie and I'm Proud helped me fall in love with TK and 90s Jpop.

As long as she shows up and doesn't fall off the stage, I will consider her appearance a success.

I'm actually surprised she is even invited. Most people that I know if Japan say she is a drug addict and you know how harsh Japanese society views that.

On a side note: It seems Komuro is really mending bridges. He is working with Amuro again (not composing new music but he was supposedly supposed to make an appearance on stage with her at the cancelled Okinawa show and she is performing his songs again for the first time in forever), he's been getting back into Avex' good standing again and making new music, and now Tomomi Kahala is coming back too?

I love how talented she is, tbh. Compared to other acts (especially back then) she played harmonica and had a soprano voice that she was able to do vibrato with, haha.

She sang back up vocals for other Komuro acts before she debuted. Amuro's You're My Sunshine, TRF's Brand New Tomorrow are the only ones I can think of right now.

Wonder if she can still hit her high notes. The article stated that she'll be singing her most famous song(s), which means it'll probably be I'm Proud, but I'm secretly hoping for I Believe

But yeah, 90's jpop definitely isn't for everyone. I just think it sounds so much... happier than it is now. It makes me feel good.

Ohh yes ! "Save your dream" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ptkhnf5ly1I

At that time she was more interesting vocally than Namie by far ^^

It feels like she's had so many attempts at "comebacks". I dunno, I really wish she'd have some success or at least happiness. She actually has a nice singing voice I think, though it's a bit different, it's never really off from what I've heard.

Watching "I'm Proud" PV really makes me feel really weird...like nostalgic, I suppose, which is weird because I was 5 when it was released!
