New radio interview with Utada. Typed no audio file....
Well you can thank the stupid radio station's site for not having an online-streaming option so who knows if anyone captured it or it'll be available for download later. However, you can also thank tai_kou for actually sitting there and typing the entire thing up
so here ya go...Utada went to the 107.9 the End studios with bodyguards that literally looked like CIA agents. (My friend said they all look really mean). She was in the studios and the DJs were questioning her about the Japanese "Madonna" thing. She said it was a very flattering thing to be called. But first she had to teach the DJs how to correctly pronounce her name. She went in with her dad. She was so cute. She said that it was so hot and dry here, that she was afraid she wouldn't make it to Sacramento. The DJs then proceeded to ask her about her and New York. She said rent for a penthouse apartment was $8000 a month. The DJs asked her what did she like about NewYork.. She said, "New York you can walk everywhere which is nice." DJ: Do you get recognized in the streets in New York? Utada: Yea, by um-- Not much by Japanese people but by Thai people and when I walk into restaurants. ^___^ She also said Vietnamese food is her favorite. The DJs said Vietnamese and Thai food are spicy and she goes, "Oh my gawd. All this talk about spicy food in the morning is making me sick." The DJs then asked her if she was dating anyone. And she goes, "Actually, I'm married." Everyone in the studio goes, "OooOh!! Ohh!" in surprise. They ask her if her husband is with her in the US and she said "no." They asked if when she got married and she said at 19. The DJs kept asking her if he was her true love. (This was because before she came in the studio, a fan said her favorite song was "First Love.") Utada said she doesn't know because how does anyone know when its true love? When asked about the large amount of fans in Japan, she said: Utada: "People in Japan dont' really recognize me." She saids she walks around without hat or glasses and people don't really recognize her. Some do but its like they see a ghost and don't really expect Utada to be walking around. They asked her about her song, "Easy Breezy." She said that it was about a girl that got with a guy, who went and told everyone and made a fool of the girl. Utada was asked what language she liked to sing in more: Japanese or English. And said, "Well, they're both nice." The DJ asked what are the shows like in Japan. Utada said she hadn't done a lot of Show. About 12,000 at a show. The DJs then played her song "Easy Breezy." After the song, the DJs told Utada that she had a fan on the phone name Tony that was on hold for about a whole hour. Tony asked, "Of all of your songs, what was the hardest to sing?" Utada: "The hardest to sing? Umm... Let's see. Maybe Final Distance. That was really difficult to sing. Its really weird because I make my own songs, I'm fine with it. And then I go into the studios and realize how difficult it is sometimes." DJ: You mean its difficult because its emotional or...? Utada: Its technically difficult. ^__^ The DJs then teased Tony about waiting so long on the phone just to ask Utada that. The DJs said Tony wanted to ask her to marry him but found out she's already married. Tony: Yea, that's kinda sad right now. Utada: Well, thanks for waiting so long for talking to me. Another fan calls in: Jennifer: Thank you so much for finally putting out a single in America. Its been a long time coming. I want to ask can you convince Ayumi Hamasaki to come over here too? Utada: Well that'd be cool! The DJs ask Utada who Ayumi was. Utada said Ayumi is a really big singer and is really pretty and really cute. Utada: She's a really big singer and she's really pretty. She writes her own lyrics I think? Dj: Is she your competition? DJ#2: She's opposite of your how? Utada: Well, some people make that comparison like a rival but we do different things and I think she's really cute. Another fan Lucy calls in: I just want to say that you are my favorite Japanese Popstar. Utada: Oh, thank you! Lucy: I missed the beginning of the show but when I heard them say Utada I was like, "Oh my gawd- NO WAY!" Are you doing a performance around here? Utada: No I just came to be on this radio show. ^__^ I'll come back again. Lucy: I would SO love to meet you. Utada: Thank you! The DJ said that there are autograph items here and that people can call in and try to get them. Last fan who got to talk to Utada was Will. Will saids, "Hey um I was going to stop by earliar but my friend's car broke down. DJs: We wouldn't have let you in anyway. Will: Anyways, I was wondering if um, what album is the song "Hikari" on? Utada: Hikari is on the black and white cover album called Deep River. =) There was a fan called Lina who got to go in to meet her. Lucky girl. Easy Breezy is announce to come along in October. XD The DJs messed up and said she was Chinese. And played some weird tape that they claim a black Texan was rapping in Chinese. ( ^.^;; They're strange like that. ) Utada said if she needed an interesting rap session, she'll give the DJs a call. The DJs ask her what was the greatest influence for her musically. Utada: I grew up listening to a lot of rock like Bon Jovi. And then I got into R&B: Mary J B, Aayliah... The Djs seem to be really pushing the Ashlee Simpson album to Utada for some reason. Utada said she hadn't got her album yet. DJ: What is a life time dream for you? Utada: Life time dream? I want to meet Sting. Maybe I can hide behind the counter when he comes and jump out and scare him. Utada wants to produce Sting too. =) She' said it was the first time anyone would see her all smiling. The DJ then counted that Utada signed about 20 things. And first 20 callers into the station gets it. SO, that concludes the interview with Utada. ^___^ |
