Alternative Method for Ripping CCCD (Step-By-Step Guide)

PREFACE: I DON'T know if this method will work for everyone! I went and figured it out because no matter what software I used, I always got junk data because of the copy protection. Your mileage may vary, so you have been forewarned! Keep in mind this is a VERY tedious (read: pain in the ASS) process. If you don't like lots of work, then leave now!. I used CloneCD for this, you can get the demo here. I also used UltraISO, which you can get the demo of here. Lastly, I used Adobe Audition (there is a demo available here. I DON'T know if the demo versions will allow you to do all the steps - I purchased the full versions!

The following assumes you have the full versions of all three applications installed and you are ready to rip the CD.

1. Insert the CD you want to rip, and open CloneCD.

2. Click "Read to Image file" on the main window (farthest left box w/ CD and glasses on it)

3. Select which optical drive the disk is in (if you have more than one), otherwise go to step 4

4. Right click in the white box and select "New" from the drop down menu

5. Type the name as "CCCD" with no quotes

6. Right click your new CCCD profile and click "Edit ..." from the drop down menu

Data Read Settings should be:
Read Speed Data: Max
Read SubChannel Data from Data Tracks (this should be unchecked / turned off)
Regenerate Data Sectors (this should be checked / turned on)

Audio Read Settings should be:
Read Speed Audio: Max
Audio Extraction Quality: Best (Slowest)
Read SubChannel Data from Audio Tracks (this should be unchecked / turned off)
Only read first Session (this should be checked / turned on)

Error Handling settings should be:
Fast Error Skip Settings: On
Abort on Read Error (this should be unchecked / turned off)
Don't report read errors (this should be unchecked / turned off)
Intelligent Bad Sector Scanner (this should be unchecked / turned off)

10. Click "OK" to leave the Profile Settings window.

11. Select the CCCD profile you just edited, and click "Next >"

12. On the next window, click "Browse..." and find somewhere to save the image. Leave "Create 'Cue-Sheet'" unchecked (turned off). Click "OK" and it should copy the disc to your hard drive. Close CloneCD.

13. Open UltraISO. Click "File", then "Open..." and you should see the tracks as .wav files.

14. Select ALL of them (even the small ones! each one is roughly 10 seconds of track 1!) and right click them. Select "Extract To..." and extract them to somewhere convenient. Close UltraISO.

15. Open Adobe Audition. Click "File", then "Open", and browse to the directory where you extracted the waves to. Select (highlight) all of them, and then click "Open"

16. Once they open, you should see them on the left of the window. Hit F12 or click the button under "File" and "Edit" to switch to the Multitrack view!

17. Select Track01.wav and right click it, then click "Insert Into Multitrack". Move the yellow dotted line a little past where the wave ends by clicking near the end with your mouse and using the right arrow key. Insert the NEXT track (Track02.wav, or whatever track is next) and then repeat with the mouse and arrow as above. Repeat this step as needed.

18. When you have added ALL the tracks to the multitrack view (all the waves should be in TRACK 1 of the multitrack view!) find the start of Track02.wav (it'll only be showed as Track02, not Track02.wav and goes for all other tracks in this view) in the multitrack view.. RIGHT CLICK that part and move it over to the LEFT until it "snaps" against the end of Track01.wav. Be careful not to overlap the audio, because it will let you! Then Right click Track02.wav again and select "Merge/Rejoin Split" and it will merge those two together. Next, move Track03.wav over until it snaps against the end of Track02.wav - repeat the Merge/Rejoin Split for EACH segment of the audio!

19. When you're done merging all the audio segments, you should only have one big audio segment. Right click your newly formed 1-piece-audio-thinger and select "Edit Waveform...".

20. You should see that you have a big wave file (in the bottom right is the length (MM:SS:MS) or minutes:seconds:milliseconds). To the left of the big text near the center, bottom, you should see an arrow going up and down with a magnifying glass to the right of it with a "+" (plus) in it. You will need to use it to zoom in on the waveform so that you can see where the audio reaches 0db (in the center of each channel; top part is left channel and bottom part is right channel). At this point you have to find out where each song starts, and ends. When you do, select the entire part of the waveform where the song is (so it's highlighted), and then click "Edit" and then "Copy to New". It will make a new temporary file with the part you just highlighted. If you need help with moving it around, the green bar above the waveform view lets you move left and right.

21. In your new waveform, select the entire thing (ctrl+a) and go to "Edit" and then "Delete Silence..." DON'T change anything yourself - just click "Find Levels" and then "Scan for Silence Now". When those are both done, click "OK". Be careful here too! Some songs (like ourselves, have gaps in the audio intentionally to make breaks in the song! In those cases select the front part and end part seperately and then remove the silence. Don't perform delete silence on the entire waveform at once!)

22. When you're done deleting silence, click "File" and then "Save As..." Pick where you want to save it, the filename and the type. If you want to change options on the MP3 type, click the "Options..." button on this window.

23. If there is more than one song you want, go back to step 20 with one modification: move the green bar at the top of the waveform a little and then hit the Del(ete) key to remove the part of the waveform you just copied and saved. You can get back to the other (big) file by double (left) clicking it in the pane to the left of the wave view. The files that have changed have a * (asterik [sp?]) to the right of them. You don't need it once you've saved your other copy. Repeat this as needed.

24. When you're all done, close Audition. Go to the directory you saved your MP3's (or whatever) to and enjoy. You will have to edit the tags yourself with whatever software you have (I used WinAMP).

This should be a complete step-by-step guide. I apologize for it's wordiness and messiness, but I just finished it at 6AM CST. There may be easier ways but *shrug* this way worked first for me lol.
