What does Ayu think of the remixes of her songs ?

I've been wondering , what does Ayu think of the remix albums and the remixes of her songs ? Has she ever commented something about any of the remixes ? I'd like to hear what she has to say about them

she has to have said something about them , since remixing is such a big part of her music . I'd wanna know what does she think about the Super Eurobeat , Ayu-Mi-X or Cyber Trance albums , and does she have a favorite remix or something.

Hmm, didn't find much but this page suggests she probably wasn't keen on the first remix album's title
"its title is "AYUMIX". Sorry. The producer decided it, too. Sorry. Please forgive for the sake of Max Matsuura"
but did say
"I think [it is] very good, as we did our best".

Since she's usually silent on the subject, we might assume she's either neutral or not very keen on them generally.
If she actively liked that style of music the originals would probably be influenced by it more than they are.

Sometimes I've wondered about that too. It doesn't seem she has ever made any public reference about it though
EDIT: Oh thanks LeButler! It seems like masa's webpage always has a reply even if a short one for a lot of the questions about ayu!

that IS an interesting question....a lot of artists get remixed though. if my songs got remixed i'd be kind of interested to hear the different sounds.

If she didn't like them... why would she have kept on publishing /so/ many albums? She must enjoy them for the most part... If it were me, I'd love them. People taking my work and twisting it up is always welcomed and I love it (People make me cosplay CGs). I can't imagine she doesn't like them.

Right, the NTV Special Interview 2000 introduced Ayu with her doing a photoshoot for her ayu-mi-x II covers. They even showed how she controlled her image into exactly what she wanted for ayu-mi-x II (she was cutting the paper and setting how she wanted all the Ayu's together for the advertising poster). It was reiterated that this was for her "ayumi hamasaki image", so remixes just expand her image more.

Furthermore, in NTV Special interview 2004, there is a scene in the photoshoot for the 40 magazine covers. Ayu talks to the staff and the background music is SEASONS BLUE SUNBEAM mix

Because she doesn't have anything and doesn't need to have anything to do with remix albums other than do photoshoots for the covers and the promotion side of it. It's Avex's idea to release them, same can be said on most occasions about the Best-of albums.

That is an interesting question though.

But actually, alot of people hate people altering their work in fear of butchering it, you see it all the time on art sites with a notice prohibiting people are re-posting their work with any alterations.

interesting question.... mh.. I wonder! ...she must have an opinion on the subject.. but no one has ever ask her (maybe)... and sice everyone makes remixes.. nobody has stopped and ask. Is so natural, I guess, to make remixes that they just.. don't care.

JinHamasaki: Although that may not prove anything. For all you know, Ayu was listening to the "SEASONS" single on random shuffle, so after the title track, it jumped to the "BLUE SUNBEAM" remix, and because she didn't want to interrupt the interview she just let it play. ^^;;

Good question though. I would've though that she wouldn't have liked the idea of the remix albums, since it's Avex working as an organisation to make money - against her interests or not, I'm not sure. However, I think it's just like the whole "A BEST" thing that Masa-san mentioned on his page; because she was determined to fight Ayu the product as Ayu the person, she put in all the effort she could in the photoshoot. Maybe the way I phrase it doesn't make much sense but if you read Masa-san's page, maybe it'll be better.

honestly i dont think she cares about the remixes. a lot of artists dont care about remixes. in the electronic music forums, you always hear news about an artist refusing to release a remix of their songs.

I've always wondered this as well! She never mentions them though...and I kind of always thought they didn't fit her image (even though I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ayumi remixes).

And what if the lack of remixes lately is Ayumi's influence and NOT Avex's? Food for thought I think.

That would be sad if she didn't want them!

Although, it could have been programmed in her not to like them from the first ayu-mi-x, when/if she felt that Avex was just overusing her material for more money...kind of like her discontent with A BEST.

I loved her remixes though, I've been sad since they've stopped making them and having a bunch on singles...I'll still hope it's Avex and not Ayu, but if it is Ayu, then I would be curious as to what her reason is for it.

^I've also thought that remixes don't fit her more "rockish" image so much either. I dunno if that makes sense though.

I find it hard to believe that she is indifferent on the issue, I really really do. Ferry Corsten, also known as System F back in the day, did MANY remixes of her songs in the past. Then, he worked with Ayu and they make Connected which was released on an official album. I doubt, had Ayu had not liked her songs remixed, she would have ever met Ferry Corsten and there by Connected wouldn't exist.

It is my belief that Ayu's roots in Trace (and remixing for that matter) is very strong. Whatever, Too Late, Far Away, Naturally... the proof is there that she likes the genre. From the very begining of her career, she has had remix albums and singles jam packed with remixes. Not just done by Japanese DJs, but DJs from all over the world. She is one of the most remixed artists in the world. Considering how much she controls her image, down to the very last detail, I REALLLY REALLY doubt that if she didn't like them, or even didn't think much of them, that she would continually let her work be remixed. It just doesn't make sense.

Yup. I just looked for it...

I don't even think I noticed that the first time I read that article, thanks for pointing that out.

Nessa, thanks for pointing that out about Ferry Corsten. I was going to say something about that myself but you explained it wonderfully. My whole idea was basically the same as yours: if she didn't like the remixes, why would she have allowed Connected to be made? Also, it's been discussed a few times the trance-y sound of Naturally, and then of course WHATEVER and all of those other electrically influenced songs of hers.

I still don't think she can hate the remixes, or the style of music, themselves.

However, I do still believe what I mentioned before, that she may have been programmed into thinking negatively about her own set of remixes only because it's more of the whole "product" issue. This is only a possibility though. I'd still much rather think that she's not against them.
