Have split this into a new thread from here: Santito's referring to the 2005 Awards which are due in a few week's time.

Although Christina Aguilera is presenting it seems unlikely they'll be shown on US TV. The Asian Awards aren't even mentioned on the US website (whereas others like the Europeen Awards are).
Maybe someone can get the answer from http://www.mtvasiaawards.com for us?

i just checked the mtv asia awards thing and they turned it into mtv asia aid. and i've been seeing commercials for it and i live in iowa. its on friday at 7 central i believe. i freaked out because they said asian and american artists will be there (duh) but yea...i hope it is the same they're showing in asia. you know, with the asian artist parts still in it.

UPDATE: it will be on friday 8/7c and here's the description from mtv.com:

MTV Asia Aid
Hosted by Alicia Keys, this global benefit features performances by both international and Asian artists such as Simple Plan, Hoobastank, Good Charlotte, Namie Amuro, Tata Young, and Jay Chou. Throughout the show, viewers are urged to donate to our partner UNICEF to help support the tsunami relief effort. Members of the audience at the venue are encouraged to send live messages of hope from mobile phones and through the internet which will appear on the screens of the set. The show also contains news packages featuring human stories of the tsunami disaster, from its impact to future challenges ahead. To be recorded at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand on Feb 3, 2005.

i thought christina aguilera was hosting...but anyways, its only an hour long but hopefully namie and everyone else will still be in it. i'm so happy! i finally get to see good artists on mtv.

Yeah, I checked my listings and they are going to show MTV Asia Aid here too. I bet they will cut all the non-English performances out though.

Knowing MTV, they probably will.

I don't expect the awards to air over here any time soon. Last year's Japanese awards or something were aired on MTV2 a few months back, but cut into (if I remember right) a 30 minute show with only the Western performances and only a few snippets of Japanese, during presentations (as well as a really lame effort from Joel of Good Charlotte to speak Japanese ). Hopefully they won't do that to this Aid thing.. I might tune in, even though I really, really loathe MTV and the Western performers featured.. At least it's for a good cause.

AND for my fellow Canadian fans

Asia Aid on Much
Thursday, January 27, 2005

Nelly, Good Charlotte and Alicia Keys are among the A-list artists contributing to the MTV Asia Aid concert. Much will simulcast the concert on Wednesday, February 9 at 8pm ET.

oh yeah, anyone living over in Asia willing to rip the show and share with the rest of us? Just in case if MTV does do something wacky to the broadcast, we still get a chance to watch this.
