news about ayu and D.A.I. (i don't know what's going on)
http://www.zakzak.co.jp/gei/2005_05/g2005051910.html
D・A・Iは平成11年に「Do As-」でデビュー。 ZAKZAK 2005/05/19 ------------------------------------------------ Could anyone translate it please? ![]() |

The last sentence talks about Ayu who may want to try hiphop and reggae, to change of style maybe (Like Namie) and the 1 before talks about the fact she composed songs too, but her sales who are decreasing nowadays.

[stuff in brackets] I altavista'd, because I couldn't quite understand. My Japanese is rusty, but this is correct:
Ayu crisis...!! The person who offers music to D A I [of the intention composer of avex secession??], boring in contract. For Ayumi Hamasaki, who continues to reign as the Japanese singer, (26, the photograph) a crisis has approached. [He] has intentions to leave from D A I (Nagao large, 34) avex with the member of popular band "Do as Infinity”, his post at avex (which offers music to Ayu! [AKA: Writes songs for her]). It seems that [he] is sick of the contract of avex, which requires tune making, where as the production authorized personnel "at one time hit tune". “It is good when”, says D A I, densely "it can and does sell. It’s not good to make tunes for a singer that the company decides, don’t you think that you would like to search for the singer by yourself?" As for D A I in 1999 “Do as Infinity” debut(ed?). In 13? They stopped on the charts, but excelled in tune making activities, writing tunes for Ayu, hitomi, Every Little Thing, and others. [D A I]’s skills shone even in the Japanese record grand prix of 14 years (with composing “Voyage”). The hit manufacturer pays 20010000Yen (a large amount taxpayer), but the income rises to 61000000Yen. If you make someone who has this much power angry [D A I], the wound of avex will be large. This condition was put out, as for the authorized personnel said avex will "present tune that avex owns entirely", for rewriting rights to D A I and, if being possible, to stop "avex when it becomes free”, heard that also by the people who works together. But, you also rival the story distantly. [The circumstance where he cannot stop coming out... "with you say.] Also stopping construction of all conceivable means being advanced at below water? When you verify avex concerning such movements, the person in charge "heard it somewhere”. Such story is denied by Tomizawa (one genuine person/a detailed music critic) "although there is a sense of relief when avex distances itself from D A I. The composer whom the company raises [D A I], I think, it’s good to reverse the counter flag. D A I pierces selfishly from the company, and is released. In the future it will probably keep becoming negotiation of the money”, Tomizawa analyzes. On the one hand, recently avex does composition activity itself, the circumstances where with Ayu’s CD sales have been trouble. "She herself seems to fancy the tune of the taste of HIP HOP and reggae. She’s probably likely to change her direction? [Whether you think that she would like to become Yasumuro Nami Megumi, "with the authorized personnel ahead points out, but....]

Here's my translation

Composer DAI, Fed Up With Contract A crisis is approaching Hamasaki Ayumi (26, photo), Japan's continuing reigning songstress. The composer and member of the popular band "Do As Infinity" (belonging also to Avex), DAI (Nagao Dai, 34), who has come to supply Ayu with music, has intentions to leave Avex. Related work sources testify that, "Since making the hit song 'Ii Toko Tori', DAI seems to be getting sick and tired of Avex constitutionally demanding he compose songs to sell. Rather than making songs for singers the company chooses, he thinks he wants to find singers himself." DAI made his debut with "Do As-" in Heisei 11 (2000). He did not appear on stage in Heisei 13 (2002), but along side with band activities, he wrote songs for popular artists such as Ayu, hitomi (29), and Every Little Thing. His work with Ayu on "Voyage" lit up the grand prize in Heisei 14's (2003) Japanese music awards. He payed 20,010,000 yen (US$200 thousand) according to the recent ranking of the highest tax-payers, and he is a hit maker earning an estimated income exceeding around 61,000,000 [yen] (US$600 thousand). If estranged from this man with this power alone, it will be a massive blow to Avex. The earlier source says, "Avex has said to DAI that they own all of his songs before now, and have laid out the condition that if they renew the rights, he should quit. And if he goes free, I heard he has decided who he will work with. But that's an old story. Have the reasons he can't quit come out?" Below the surface, are various people going on scheming to stop him from leaving? When confirming these actions with Avex, the person in charge denied them, saying "Where did you hear that? Nothing like that is happening." Well-informed J-POP critic, Mr. Tomizawa Issei (?), analyzes: "On one hand, a composer raised by a company has a sense of security under their wing, it's also not uncommon for him to change his mind and revolt, thinking 'I can do this on my own'. But there's a risk that they will be selfishly pushed away from the company. After that it all turns into financial negotiation." On the other hand, recently composing for herself, it seems that the force of Ayu's CD sales is disappearing for the time being. But the previous source poitns out, "Personally, she seems to be requesting songs with a hip-hop or reggae taste. I assume she probably wants to change her direction. Maybe she's thinking of becoming like Amuro Namie." I love every single one of DAI's compositions for Ayu. And Do As Infinity has a lot of really really really awesome music too! So it's kinda sucky for Avex, and I guess it depends on what this means for Avex's artists who rely on DAI. But I'm very glad for him. How many Avex-abuse stories have we heard? I hope this actually goes through. |

I wouldn't pay a terrible amount of attention to this article's source. Not only are they unnamed, but they don't seem to really know what they're talking about. I wouldn't call Amuro Namie "reggae," and even "hiphop" is a stretch. This person, probably not really with the times, doesn't have a strong grasp on what the different genres of music are. He/she probably just means stuff along the lines of "STEP you" and "INSPIRE". They seem to be more common in today's Ayu - after a lot of rock, she's edging back to her roots, it seems: an evolved, rock-infused form of what "A Song for XX" was originally aiming for.

Hmm...sounds like a case of "since your on my label (or since I can afford to), I own all of your stuff" again...ie: Little Richard, the Beatles...all of the other stars with musical catalogs worth millions of dollars. I sure hope Ayu is smarter than them and is getting her stuff together. If she plans on having an early retirement she might get a rude awakening of getting NOTHING from Avex.
These kind of things happen to Music legends & artists who contirbuted a lot towards the industry (or label). They either end up leaving the label with nothing to show for, backstabbed by record execs or in some people's cases; PAID to leave. |

wow this sucks big time for Avex!! I really hop this doesn't affect Ayu or any other DAI dependent singers. That's unfortunate, I really love DAI. I wish the best for him though! Thanks for the info

Hhmmm. Hasn't been Ayu been writing all of her own songs recently though? My Ayu knowledge is alittle rusty, but I don't see how this would affect her :p
