First Kumi, then Ken and B'z, and now Mika too. ^^'

I don't dig the tracklist though, this is almost like a single collection but without 'hitori'!? And no 'FAKE' either. =/ I think I'll get MUSIC instead.

that's because they've all released three albums. Traditionally, in Japan, an artist's best album follows their third album.

Easy assumption to make, but that's too simple, and very easily refuted. B'z has been around for many, many years - I think they just released their 14th album this year. Kumi's follows after 4 albums (and in all honesty, I think her best album wouldn't have come about if not for the fact that she just made it big), and Hirai Ken's is to commemorate his 10 years in the industry.

Also, the brilliant green has released 4 albums so far, and no best album yet.

I think the three year trend is because people start getting bored of artistes by the third or fourth year since they started listening to the artist, whereby in most cases the artist would have released 3 albums already, hence the best album serves to sum up the 3 years' worth of music (and that's a lot given the crazy rates at which the Japanese release music) and reinterest old fans, as well as to draw new ones. And it's definitely a far easier way to make money. At least, that's my take on the whole thing.

"Hitori" was a recut single and wasn't very successful. Notice they didn't put "Hi no tori" as well. It wasn't that successful either. I don't understand why there's no "Helpless Rain"... but I'll definitely buy this instead of the 2 "old" MM singles I wanted ><

There's also no "ONE SURVIVE"...or "Seppun". Then again, the latter was a cover, so.

Some pretty bad choice of tracks...what the heck is LEGEND, SEVEN, CRESCENT MOON and SPECIALLY "AMAZING GRACE" doing there? And Why aren't "Helpless Rain" and "Hi no Tori" on there?

Ooh. I only have 4/14 (MUSIC) of those tracks, but I'm mad that AMAZING GRACE is on there, because that's one of her worst. I want this because I'm too cheap to buy her first two albums and they made pretty good selections.

There's a trend for releasing "best" albums recently. I saw it on the news and music industry experts say that it's because the turnover for musicians & artists is much quicker than it used to be. Popularity now is much more fleeting for newer singers and record companies often release best albums for a few reasons: 1) more money in a shorter amount of time, 2) stores prefer it [they'd rather stock a compilation album of popular singles than every album someone releases, it saves space], 3) it's an easy way to get new fans who want to sample an artist's most popular work, possibly leading to buying a full original album.

I'll say this because moviebuffwwc didn't mention it - the version of "AMAZING GRACE" to be included on the album is a re-recorded version produced and performed by Ayado Chie, a renown pianist. I'd imagine they'd re-record Mika's vocals as well, so.

But I'm definitely upset "hi no tori" isn't there. And "GLAMOROUS SKY"? In between all her pop and ballads, this one sticks out like a sore thumb.
