What Are "Your" Songs?

In my opinion a song that is "my" song is one that has special significance to me. These songs are by no means my favorite songs, but they do own the disgustingly sentimental, saccharine, and maudlin sliver of my heart. Enjoy.

Ayumi Hamasaki - Key
Ayumi Hamasaki - Far away
Ayumi Hamasaki - no more words
Bright Eyes - We Are Nowhere And It's Now
Norah Jones - Shoot The Moon
Norah Jones - One Flight Down
The Killers - Andy, You're A Star
Aya Matsuura - ki ga tsukeba anata
Vivaldi (nerdy, I know) - Violin Concerto op. 3/6 in A minor (Allegro Moderato)

Post your songs, or else!

Good one. Like you, songs I consider to be 'my' songs aren't necessarily my favourite songs, so please, don't consider this list a representation of my taste in music.

The Jesus & Mary Chain - Just Like Honey (also a favourite, by the way); a beautiful song, the whole feeling of it kind of reflects how I think of the world, my place in it, etc. <-- mumbo jumbo.

Chihiro Onitsuka - Tiger In My Love (also a favourite); this songs always played in the car when me and my girlfriend went to the beach last year. Immediately reminds me of those beautiful days, driving in the car, sun shining, a cool breeze; not in your typical cliché sunshine way, but a sort of melancholic kind of way, like the sound of the song. <-- more mumbo jumbo.

Madball - Demonstrating My Style (not a favourite, or at least, not anymore); this song, among other Madball songs, really 'helped' me when I was in puberty. I always thought it was such bullcrap when people said lyrics had helped them in a tough period, but well, in puberty, Madball helped me. <-- mumbo perhaps, jumbo perhaps not.

Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me) (not a real favourite); me and my girlfriend's song, so whenever it comes on the radio or whatever, it cheers me/her/us up. We need a new one though, lol, this one is pretty lame, haha.

Iron & Wine - Each Coming Night (favourite!); just like so many Iron & Wine songs, this song always makes me see the beauty of everyday. It's funny how Iron & Wine makes me appreciate the little things in life, but it's true.

Probably some more, but I'll get back to that.

this thread is such a good idea! here are mine, i had to cut some out cause my list was way too long.

Aurora - Ordinary World (Remix): this song instantly takes me to days gone by, it makes me think of the city i used to live in, of driving around with my boyfriend and clubbing every night...it makes me think of night and the night sky...of times that were all fun and no worry.

Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out: this was THE song for the summer of 2004. it was everywhere and each time i heard it i felt hyped and happy. it makes me think of those days, my old apartment, and some of my old friends who i've lost contact with.

Ayumi Hamasaki - Dolls: this was a song that helped me deal with a past breakup...i rember quite vividly when the chorus hit and the tears came. the song conveys a lot of pain for me.

The Postal Service - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight: when i hear this song, it fills me with nostalgia i guess and a bit of melancholy. i recall being entranced by it almost and some sort of connection within my own life. its difficult to explain, but i think it spurs my creative side for some reason.

Junior Senior - Move Your Feet: purely a fun song, i first hear this song (and saw the video) one night of bar hopping a couple of years ago. it reminds me of all the fun things at the time and the guy i was dating then who was incredibly hyper and over the top fun...just like the song and video.

Ayumi Hamasaki - Heartplace: "we are free to go anywhere we want, we are free to do anything we want," need i say more? i guess this is one of my self empowement songs.

wow touchedstar, good taste!

Tori Amos - Playboy Mommy: This song is Tori singing to the baby she miscarried... there was a time i was sure i had miscarried Judee, so this song makes me cry every time i hear it.

The Postal Service - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight (no really! not ripping you off, touchedstar!): This song is a reminder of the time spent in my apartment at UC Riverside with my now-ex. Those were good times, stressful as they were.

B'z - Easy Come, Easy Go!: This is my life-goes-on-after-he-dumps-you song, which i always listen to when i'm 100% sure i'll never find anyone else. I always do, but if i get dumped i do still need a pick-me-up and this is it.

Sleeper - Nice Guy Eddie: This britpop song started my music-from-other-countries phase in 1997. It's a fun song and it has stuck with me all these years.

The Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star: First music video ever played on MTV, my first favorite song when i was a little baby, and a song whose lyrics i stand by. Image has killed real music for the most part.

Ayumi Hamasaki - Hana: I was always so scared of growing up. This and "A Song for XX" have a few lyrics that REALLY hit close to home.

The Beatles - Hey Jude: This is me & ibuki's song for Judee! ^_^

B'z - IT'S SHOWTIME!!: I'm in the video for this song! It was a Valentine's Day Weekend date with my then-boyfriend. GOD it was fun! ^_^

Pink Floyd - Time: I remember the first time i read the lyrics to this song. I remember thinking, "this is EXACTLY how i feel!" I feel that way more now than i did then. Always worried i'll float through life without accomplishing anything, then die regretting it.

Yoko Kanno - Run Rabbit Junk: This song brings me into a semitrance while coding... perhaps the closest thing to sleep I get.
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here: The Pink Floyd war songs always give me refuge from my constantly running mind... They allow me to see things differently.
Death Cab for Cutie - Styrofoam Plates: You have to listen to the song to fully understand, i think, but it's just... it's something else... I know the feelings so well.
Jefferson Airplane - Good Morning, Vietnam: Another song that soothes memories.
Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight: I guess every vigilante mind has to have a song that talks about the vigilante mindset... this is mine...
Postal Service - We Will Become Silhouettes: The love in this song, hiding behind such a gorgeous analogy...
Postal Service - Clark Gable: just... yes...

Good ones, everybody! I highly approve. I probably should have witten a description as to why those are my songs, as you all did (good call, by the way), but I don't really have a reason other than those songs remind me of myself in some form or another. Except for "ki ga tsukeba anata", which is just a fun song that they play all the time here, and just makes me think of having fun, being young, and not caring about the consequenses! (I'm cheesy, I know). And the Vivaldi song is just my favorite classical song (I played it at a recital once). It's just so freaking catchy!

Way to bust out the gate with an interesting topic Darts. (May I call you Darts?)

My Favorite songs are allways about broken or ending relationships. I never had any "songs" with my girlfriends, but I have assigned songs to each of them post-mortem.

Cake - Up So Close. This one is about a not-so-good relationship, but the lyrics dont really mean that much to me, its just coincedentaly the first song that came on in my car after driving 150 miles to see my girlfriend at her new college and realizing that things weren't going to work out for us.

Eve 6 - Here's to the Night. I was in a touring Higschool choir, and TR's (tour romances) were common. week long relationships that blossomed and fizzeled quickly and were never revisited. This was my junior year TR song.

Blink 182 - Please Take Me Home. My Senior Year TR song.

Moriyama Naotaro - Itoshii Kimi E. After living and studying in Japan for a couple years, the time came for me to go home. My Girlfriend and I realized that we may never meet again. We wrote eachother leters that we werent supposed to read until after we had said our goodbyes. In her letter to me she wrote the lyrics to this song.

Ayumi Hamasaki - July 1st. Coincidentaly, in my letter to her, I also wrote some song lyrics.

There are some others, but I suppose I've gone on long enough.

Avril Lavigne- I'm With You Oh come on there's nothing wrong with Avril My boyfriend and I fell in love to this album, and this just makes me think of him even though the lyrics are completely unrelated.

Luba- No More Words I've known this song for as long as I remember and it takes me back to my childhood.

Blur- Parklife This is pretty much my theme song for junior high.

Bon Jovi- Bed Of Roses Has always come on at the perfect moment.

Ronan Keating- When You Say Nothing At All Tender moments with my boyfriend.

silverchair- Anna's Song (Open Fire) Favourite band for many years when I was younger, this song sums up my teen life. Again, not the lyrics, I never fought anorexia :x

The Cranberries- Dreams Grade 6.

Nelly Furtado- Well, Well Peace and summer.

With most of these songs it's not the lyrics but just the time and place I listened to them most and how now they transport me back to a certain place or time.

Tori Amos - Hey Jupiter
Dont know why, but I just feel so sad and depressed listening to this. Its a beautiful piece of work. Just love her vocals.
Nelly Furtado- Try
In addition to absolutely loving this song, I get melancholic to this. Amazing song which I can relate to.
Norah Jones- Those Sweet Words
The melody is beautiful and dreamy. Strangely addictive.
Shakira- Don't Bother
I love this song now, eventhough it isnt attention grabbing. Really good guitars. The lyrics are really good.
Silent Hill 3- You're Not Her, Silent Hill 4- Room Of An Angel, all of them are depressing and teary but just amazing. Always associated with my thoughts.

really good idea for a thread

1.The Discoboys feat. Mannfred Mann's Earth Band - For You: pure power, melody and cool vocals, if you're into house this is a must. Those were the last few months towards my graduation and this was all about getting your studies done and afterwards forgetting it all while dancing all night long.

this song represents this feeling perfectly and whenever I listen to it I feel like dancing and I wanna go out ^___^

2.Frou Frou - Must be dreaming: I fell for an awesome girl at that time. She looked like a top model, was clever and fun. but most of all she was chatting me up! ^^. Well it didnt work out the way I imagined it would, but this song was the one I would listen to the most at that time, and its dreamlike atmosphere just perfectly describes how I felt at that time.

3.Most songs from "I am...": that was the worst time of my life but those songs gave me the power to survive it. Whenever I listen to those songs I feel like I can make it

4.L'Arc~en~Ciel - LOVE FLIES: this is the song that made me learn how to play the guitar.

cant think of anymore right now, but I'll update this soon. ^^

That's a good idea.
These are the only two songs that I can think of.

Ayumi Hamasaki - no more words Oh my gosh, not only is it my favorite song by Ayu, but this is my song, just... my song.

Feed The Birds from Walt Disney's Mary Poppins Oh my God, I cry every time I hear this song. Without a doubt, I will cry. The music is absolutely AMAZING and just... *exhale* wow.

I have a couple of songs for me, I think...

Changin' My Life - Myself and Changin' My Life - Eternal Snow
This song is just something that I would write expressing my feelings. It feels like it's talking about me when I'm in love.

Iwao Junko - Scarlet
Just like the above, but in a more general way.

Ayumi Hamasaki - M
Because I still believe there's love for me somewhere in the world.

John Waite - Missing You
Because sometimes I lie to myself.

Porno Graffitti - Mienai Yume
Because I won't give up.

Kokia - Hello Passing Days
Most of the time I feel like this XD

This is going to take some thought:

Ayumi Hamasaki:M, Memorial Adress, Duty, A Song For XX
I chose those song because they describe the life transitions I've been going through. Alot has change from when I was 16 to 17. Now I'm almost 18 and I feel it's time for me to grow up a little.
Nelly Furtado:Try, Baby Girl
The first time I ever heard Try I almost cried. It's in a way a feeling I'd like to feel towards someone. Baby Girl is a song I relate to because I'm actually really spoiled
Namie Amuro: I Will, Lovin' It
Two songs I could not live without now that I've heard them.
Malice Mizer: Le Ciel
So sad but yet so beautiful.
Lena Park: Fall In Love
Fall In Love is just so beautiful. The words are so strong.
Natasha Bedingfield: Bruise Easily, Peace Of Me
I think these songs really describe me. Alot of people would be suprised to hear me say that. I'm no different from any other person. I feel pain I want to be loved.
Gackt:Love Letter, Fragrance, death wish, Last Song, Ares, Noah
Seriously what Gackt song isn't my song. He has to be one of the best lyricist ever. So many of his songs speak to me in some weird way.

If I Ain't Got You-Alicia Keys My best friend would always make me sing this song to him, and I guess it reminds me of my friendship with him, 'cause I don't know what I'd do without him!

Breathe-Michelle Branch My absolute favorite song!! It helps me relax when I'm stressin' out, and just reminds me that 'everything is alright, if I just breathe'.

You're Still The One-Shania Twain Again, this song reminds me of my best friend. My friend, and I have been through alot together, so I like to think of this as a way of saying to him, 'you're still the one I love'.
