Question Do you think melodies in ayu’s songs sometimes over-repeated??

Well…I’ve been realizing this matter from No way to say. In my opinion, No way to say is just a nice upbeat ballad, but it’s just over-repeated at the very end…

Then Moments…the chorus at last has been repeated…I can’t remember how many times…

The recent example is rainy day…the same melodies over and over…it does sound like rainy in this matter…but also it drives the song a little boring. After my very first time to listen to rainy day, I asked “is that all??”

The same with Dolls...once my friend told me “there’s a song in RAINBOW, I don’t remember the title, which is repeated over and over…I’m curious that when it will end when listening.” “Dolls!” I said. However, the chorus of Dolls sounds pure and much better than rainy day or the others.

I know that repeating can help to impress people, BUT, I still think the song will work much better without those melodies on and on. Otherwise, keep the melodies but just do some big changes on it when repeating – rainy day just changes such a little bit at the very end of it (that’s not enough!!)

I think the best example of nice repeat is Boys & Girls…

So would you like to share your opinions??

This is very common in songs and nothing that bother me, but yeah some of them are a bit repetitive, especially some of the older ones.

Yeah, sometimes, the melody does repeat. Sometimes, it bother me... Sometimes, it doesn't. But lately, yeah. "Beautiful Fighters" chorus is like... the ame melody, 4 times repeated! She should do something more like "SURREAL" or "Who...".

Well there's a reason why "Dolls" has a repetitive melody, after all the song has quite a waltz twist to it, and waltz songs are usually repetitive.

haha. thats why i didnt really like rainy day in the first place. its slow and repetitive. i start to feel that No way to say is a noisy song. XD For Moments, at least it sounds good. as in really elegant.

Well blame it on the composers. They write the songs. Write a letter to Ayu telling her to get some new composers.

I do think that the chorus in many of her songs in the last couple of years are over repeated. Recent example being Beautiful Fighters.

Some songs may have over repeated parts but it hasn't really bothered me yet.

Well, true that some songs are pretty repetitive... Yet, some songs that are repetitive are actually nice... However, you get tired of it faster than normal songs... Yet, first time listeners most probably will like it if that part is good... So, repetitive has its good and bad and of course, it is very very common in songs..

Nope.. She always knows when to stop the repetition. I have no problem with Rainy Day's one, the melodies are perfect there so it doesn't matter.. So far I don't find any of her songs to be repetitive. But she does recycle tunes and that's a whole new story.. >.>

Surreal is very unique and never repetitive, I agree!

I think a song being repetitive (in a bad way) depends on how much you like the melody. rainy day, HONEY, Beautiful Fighters, Ladies Night - the melodies aren't too great for me = repetitive. Moments is fine though for me.

I've always noticed this. Ayu sometimes goes overboard with some songs just to make them longer., and it is really annoying. Moments and Step You are the ones I can remember right now, and despite them being two of my favorite songs, there is too much repetition.
And as someone mentioned, Dolls, I don't think was bad. It was kind of needed in the song.
Surreal sounds good too.

Ourselves doesn't exactly repeat the chorus a lot. It is just that the chorus was really long to begin with, and after the second chorus, she sings the first chorus again. This may have sounded too extended, when in reality, ayu had only sang the choruses merely three times throughout the entire song. (Make sense?)

but i must say that most of Ayu's songs are of the same structure.

verse
chorus
verse
chorus

chorus
chorus

so its naturally repetitive. and if even line of the chrous is of the same melody, that is worse.

yep, ayumi's songs often go like this. but then again, its a pretty common arrangement. sometimes it can be repetetive though, especially on songs like rainy day. i think ladies night is pretty repetetive too.
