Lightbulb What was her motive (interview)?

So, I just finished watching the CNN interview.

Watching Ayu speak English was very odd to me (for some strange reason). At times I almost felt like I wasn't watching "Ayu", rather somebody else. I don't know if I was the only one who was slightly irked at first...

Whatever the case may be, a question sprung up. Why exactly did Ayu choose to speak English?

This may seem over-analytical, but do you think there was there a subconcious motive behind it? A goal or an icebreaker? She didn't have to speak English, she could have just ranted in Japanese.

Maybe Ayu is just showing us her sweet ass English skills

There you go.
Ayu has stated that she wishes to learn English to the point that she is able to travel overseas without her translator,
so what better opportunity than an interview to test out what she's learned?
And maybe she's also just showing off those who claim to know english although they have less than adequate proficiency? xD *coughBoA

I have no idea, maybe she wanted to try lol.

She's actually quite good, but still have some difficulties expressing.

Is it me or Ayu is really happy when she talks in english? HAHA, so cute! Plus, all those hands gestures!

She seems A LOT MORE ANIMATED than she usually is when she talked in English..I found that a bit weird. But I love the fact that she tried to reach out to a wide audience with her own linguistic skills. Go Ayu!

I would actually have liked her to speak in Japanese more. I really really wanted her to express herself to the fullest. It's great that she's trying her best to learn english, I mean, with a schedule as crazy as hers, it's almost impossible to squeeze out time to learn another language.

Personally, I think it's Ayu's 8th year in the business. There comes a point in which she needs to make herself known and heard again. People kind of lose the message along the way, about how they view her, how they view her as Ayumi Hamasaki, so I think it's good that she actually got willing to be interviewed. It lets people get to know her better.

Still, I would have to say the NTV interview trashes this by a mile. I hope they are still continuing with the NTV interview follow up! That was extremely perceptive into her life and how she felt.

Yeah, but sadly, NTV interview was only aired in Japan. CNN = the world.

Well, you have to consider the fact that this wasn't an interview made for Japan. It's more so to introduce her to an international audience. I wouldn't expect it to be some really revealing 20/20 special.

Anyways, the answers were vague yes, but I really respect the fact that she used English. It takes a lot of balls, really.

You can't expect this little interview to be like the NTV interview. It was something quick. It was only 30 minutes and it was concentrated on general things.

I'm impressed with her English. She talks like one of my friends -- always using hand gestures and very animated!

(and sometimes i think she miss understood the question.....)(she is (miss)understood .. yeah?) But it is far better than i hd expected!.. Nothing like 'Push your hands' and 'san q' come out... I think she made an effort to improve her english.. well done ayu!

surprisingly, ayu speaks english very well!! i can decipher what she was trying to say in the interview.. but perhaps, its a new language, she cant really express what she wanna say totally.. so she ended up speaking japanese.. with more time, she can speak english fluently!!!!! thumbs up ayu! keep tryin'!

anyway, i believe there is no motive.. perhaps its CNN, thats why she thought that it would be more appropriate to speak in english???? its courteosy i guess.. lol

i really don't think there was a motive behind it. i think she tried to speak as much english as possible since the interviewer spoke in english, but not all she wanted to say could be expressed in a language that is foreign to her.

she's so cute, i love her - especially when she speaks english.

I think this question won't ever be asked in Japan but in America, it is different.
Anyway they don't invite super japanese popstar everyday so they shouldn't ask this kind of question.

She doesn't get interviewed by foreign/western journalists that often so she decided to try it out?

I think it was great that ayu tried to speak english I was so happy watching the interview and I think she did a very good job. Well she knows that not all of her fans are japanese and this interview is being broadcast not only within japan. She also wants to be true and you know when you say something and it gets translated, it might not be 100% accurate or the exact wording. I guess she wants her fans to hear exactly how she felt and had to say. Ofcourse her english is limited so she tried to speak in english as much as she could with all she knows and the more difficult and longer answers in japanese. Hearing her say the asia tour will be cool is awesome!! It is definitely better to hear her say it than the translator.
