French Music

I've recently become obsessed with the French language and I'm even starting to take lessons on how to speak it! I thought it would be cool to listen to some French music, but I don't know a lot of artists.

What are your favorite French artists? Or songs? Anything!

I really like artists like Evanescence, Nightwish, Within Temptation. But, I also LOVE Jpop (of course), so I'm really open to anything that anybody would be nice enough to reccomend.

Check these out:

- Emilie Simon
- Vive La Fete (I think they're actually Belgian, but they speak French)
- Yelle
- Mylene Farmer (I've only heard a few of her songs, but she's REALLY famous in France)
- Alizee (See above)

If you like pop music, yes, Alizée or Lorie are *very* pop. Listen to their first works, I think it's the best (well in France most people only know their first album).

You can also listen to Jean-Jacques Goldman, his albums "Chansons pour les pieds" and "En passant" are very good, and he's been around for so long here, his first works are legend in France (well, let's say we all know his songs)

Rock bands... you can try Noir desir (album : "666.666 club"), pleymo, enhancer...

I'm not so sure about all this, I'm not really into french music... :p

I definately recommend Nolwen Leroy. She won the second series of the French version of Fame Academy. I haven't heard the first album she released after the show, but her second Histoires Naturelles is excellent!

Music:

Running Up That Hill (cover)

How's Olivia Ruiz then? Am thinking of picking up one of her albums when I'm in Paris.

You might like her if you like madonna and ayu. =) She has some good songs.

I honestly tried to look up some good french music wholeheartedly, I love to travel there and try to learn the language, but it's just not my taste at all overall. I bsolutely love some of the older stuff from around the 60s-70s, but aside from house party music (that usually have no linguistic value) I've yet to find some really good overall acts that never fail to deliver. My (alltime lol) fav. french songs listed below:

Nadiya - c'est parti (she has some more good songs, but more like HipPop/RNB)

France Gall - poupée de cire, poupée de son Not only a french, but also a european classic, there are so many versions surely one you must like lol. Like this rocked out one.

Mylene Farmer - Desenchanté
My favourite Mylene Farmer song and it is something as rare as a pop song with a MESSAGE. A remix was a great hit in europe for belgienne Kate Ryan not too long ago also. There are tons of remixes of this as well.

Celine Dion's S'il suffisait is a great french ballad and the lyrics are just exquisite.

Probably my all time favourite (oh yes I'm cheesy I guess) is
Vanessa Paradis singing Joe le Taxi. She's so incredibly cute (so is her voice) and the song just flows out so pleasantly without being boring.

I like this one as well. Manhattan kaboul

Céline Dion's French works (which trump her English ones IMO) and everything by Nâdiya are great, and Mylène Farmer is just a legend all her own. =]

today i was checking out some of the above suggestions and I'm coming to really enjoy Mylene Farmer. her videos are especially cool. i already posted a request in the Asian Media Requests section but I figured it wouldn't hurt here as well: does anyone have Mylene Farmer's "Les Mots" album? it's her greatest hits and i'd much appreciate if someone could upload it

Ilona Mitrecey - she's a 14 year old girl who became famous for her hit single "Un Monde Parfait" in 2005. She may be a bit too young for your tastes, but her songs are ridiculously catchy, she's awesome, so check her out ^^

Un Monde Parfait
Noël, Que du Bonheur (my favorite song by her)
Chiquitas
Allo Allo
Dans ma Fusée
C'est Les Vacances

I really recommend a band called Kyo. They're really good. My friend saw them in concert and brought back a bunch of their CDs.

DEAD @ those propositions !
as all countries you got all type of songs here from the crap to the wonderfull... the hilarious things to the dark things...

I just think that first you got to see french itunes ranks and listen to people that u don't know (well in France we got french/international things only... so it's not difficult) and discover the singers by yourself... because it really depends of what kind of music u usually feel...

POP
Christophe Willem as a good pop/disco sound.. really fresh
Christophe Maé is really popular and his last hit sample Save Tonigh of Eagle Eye Cherry (but the original is way better IMO)
Yael Naim (u probably know her song "New Soul" becaus apple uses it for the last ibook) : she sings in several languages including french
Vanessa Paradis (the wife of Johnny Depp) got an amazing pop album wich wins the "BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR" @ the "Victoires de la musique" (french grammys)

POP/ROCK
BB Brunes got their hit with "Dis Moi"
Raphael is one of the most popular pop/rock singer right now

RnB
Sherifah Luna actually makes her money there with 3 hits
Zaho is a really good singer (love her deep voice... not the lyrics lol)

and seeing what you like...
try to find some Youtube videos of KYO or Indochine or Zazie

from what others says :

Lorie was compared to Britney at their first but now they're not in the same direction at all
Mylene Farmer can be considered as the french Madonna or the french Ayu watching her sales, her merchandising, her image/world control and her impact on gay community
Lara Fabian was really compared to Celine Dion @ first

I do but it would take me a while to locate it and upload it, so i found this torrent and this rapidshare link . I assume that this "解压码:yijiayinyue" means that that "yijiayinyue" might be the password.

let me know if they work!
