The importance of a good picture

Why is it that some artists (or those in charge to promote them), sometimes mess up big time? This time I am talking about visuals. I know everybody has different tastes, but there are some case where you say WTH??? Let's take a look at an example:

Honestly, which one would you buy based on the cover picture alone? Yes, LOVE DROPS of course!


Let's take a look at another example, shall we?
The first promo picture I saw of alan, was this abomination:


Why? WHY??? Why do that to her, specially if she can look as gorgeous as this:


This is not a topic about how shallow we are, but let's admit we all like beauty, so let's take a look at this as a discussion about beauty instead of turning it into a "Looks don't matter, what's inside is what counts" (cause that's the truth, but let's go wild with this, ok?)
