Utada vs. Ayumi (vocally)
This is vocally. if you put both of them on stage, and had them sing the exact same song, who would sound better?
NOTE Spoiler:
base this strictly off of your opinion of who has a better voice live.

i'm voting for ayu.
i'm not voting for her because i don't like utada but utada's voice just doesn't do anything with me you know? i tried to like her (forced myself to listen to her albums & watch some performances). but it never worked ![]() she has a good voice though and i can see why other people would vote for her but it just isn't my thing. |

I'm gonna have to go with Utada. I love Ayumi, but I can't think of a voice I like more than Utada's.
The preformance of Deep River from the Japan Gold Disc Awards (2003, I think?) was the best live I've ever seen ever. *_* [edit] Found it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sjrlUet6NY

that utada performance is the only one of her's i've ever liked tbh. i usually think she's all over the place and while she has a nice voice, it isn't appealing.
i prefer her voice in general to ayu's, but i think is ayu is better live. |

Utada. She doesn't force herself to make vibrato.
Ayu's vocals in Together When... kinda turned me off because she sounded a bit, like, nasally. But I still love Ayu dearly. Utada just had a stronger voice.

Utada Hikaru. Her voice is her main talent.

I myself went with utada. I don't necessarily like ayumi's voice live. In some of utada's songs like be my last and dareka no. So emotional T_T
I can't stand ayu's voice in is this love. the beginning "yeah yeah yeahs' sound like some recycled crap from a woman who sung in a band during the power 80's that didn't do too well. I almost cried when I first saw utada's be my last pv. T~T

LOL...this poll is deadly unfair. Everyone knows ayu was not trained professionally as a vocalist. >_> Why pit 2 different artists who excel in different areas? Pointless. Vocally though...well...sorry Ayu
I love you still

I would said either. When I first met both of them I dislike both of their voices because I thought Utada tried to hard and Ayu sang funny.
Now that I've grown more familiar with them, I'd rather have Utada's voice than Ayu's. But the thing is Ayu can hit lower notes and Utada can hit higher ones.

I used to say that Ayu was a good vocalist...because I thought she had a good voice...but she just kinda doesn't. It has a specialness to it...
but as a vocalist I would most definitely have to go with Utada, because...she just really is better in terms of technique, and knows how to use it more as an instrument rather than actual singing...because that's how she writes her music. But if there was a neither option...I'd rather choose it...because there are some jpop singers that are way better vocalists. Hello Emi Hinouchi. I'm actually surprised a lot of people are voting for Ayu...I thought for sure that Utada would have been the crystal clear winner just cuz...usually she is even though people don't like her voice...guess I don't know the forum well anymore.

Like Hikki's voice more
But Ayu singing is more stable Hikki was better when they both began, but Ayu trained more and know have more control over her voice than Hikki, who still has a lot of breathing problems while singing and a strange vibrato... Usually, Ayu lives have better vocals (at least after 2003, 2004, before that, Hikki was better) So... I prefer one's voice and another one's technique... How can I vote? xD |

^see the only I problem I have with hikki and her live performances right, is that she writes these songs, like be my last and keep tryin, and then...she expects herself to be able to sing them...
and it's just like...not gonna happen...I mean...maybe she should take a few pages from ayu's book...and stop singing the same way she did when she first started...maybe her lives would be better, and people would like her voice more. Does that make sense?
