Ayu Song Meanings
Okay, so I seriously searched for every possible tag a thread like this could have.
I was thinking. Every Ayu song has a meaning or a story behind it. Ayu just doesn't write songs for the hell of it. I'm always curious about the meaning of her songs if I don't pick up on the lyrics right away. So maybe we could have a thread where all her song meanings are explained. They don't have to be fact, since a lot of her songs she doesn't explain. We could all just see what the most logical explanation is. So post your interpretations please. Spoiler:

There is no "right" interpretation for art, just personal interpretations... Singers don't reveal what they had in mind while composing so everyone can feel whatever they want about the music

^ ^tough one i think. but someone should try. . .not me i think though
![]() ah lately ive been interested in how well ayu did with sorta writing Free & Easy in relation to Joan of Arc. . .really the pv relates so obviously the most with the scene like the burning at the stake and the wierd white prison. . .but i like the lyrics when she says "In this, this dirty city, you're the person who gathers up and shows me something beautiful." especialyl since everything then was quite dirty and horrid but joan was quite amazing. im think im doign this wrong lol. i think im showing my appreciation for the song rather than actually analyzing this especially since its so old im sure theres no point. I think this is a great idea!
![]() ![]() Personally I always had trouble interpreting "talkin' 2 myself." At first I thought the song was about Ayu's independence and, for lack of a better word, "loneliness" since Tomoya and she split. However, after reading the lyrics, I think they deal with anyone's independence and how they should listen to the voice within. Quote:

^ i feel that ur right. it is about independence.
u know how a lot of people follow things like tabloids and the media and use it as their guide to life. as if they cant do or find anything for themselves. which in a sense is sorta pathetic. they dont realize they do have the ability to be independent and make their own decisions and determine their own mindsets |

Ah! I'd like to do an interpretation of 1 LOVE
![]() Okay, please bear with me because I'm not so good at explaining... ^o^; So... The quotes are, "If you are there, flowers continue to blossom without dying." and "If you go there, the place is always decorated with beautiful flowers, isn't it?" I'm thinking that these are being said by people who are in love with Ayu, and when the lyrics say, Quote:
Next, when the lyrics say Quote:
Quote:
I'm not sure...this is just what I got out of the song ![]() ![]() |

I would love to know WHATEVER's meaning , I have read the lyrics lots of times and I just to get what she is trying to say in some parts.

^ To add to the 1 LOVE discussion, I read a translation once that said Ayu was being mockingly polite in parts this song. How does this link to your theory? Like... being tired of these people, so tired that it borders on casual rudeness - well not really being rude, but do you understand what I am trying to say?
I won't do an interpretation of WHATEVER, because I've not thought about it before - I might try for fun. To whoever does one though: do you think she means 'whatever' - like what you say as a nonchalant expression, or, whatever as in whatever may come? I can see aspects of both in lyrics, so I'm interested in what people have to say. |

WHATEVER is a song about lost love. Whoever she's in love with has left her, and she still has thoughts about him, but she's trying to let go and thinks that if she doesn't think of anything, the pain will go away in time, though she's secretly wishing for both of them to reconcile. Hence the title "whatever", like the phrase, it shows no interest.

Alright, I will just talk about my understanding about "Untitled~for her~". I heard that it's a song that Ayu wrote for one of her good friends who died in 2008(maybe). I'm not really sure the reason why it's untitled, but all the feelings and meanings that Ayu wanted to present are included in the song's lyrics I guess.. =P
