Ayu didn't make it last year or the year before that I believe. It's kind of a biased list as you can see.

It's a list of favorite artists not artists who have the most releases =/ Maybe they just don't really enjoy what Ayu's been putting out recently ....though you've got me puzzled on Kumi. I guess the Japanese public have always looked at her a bit unfairly....she is a great singer and artist....

It makes me sad that Ayu isn't on any of them... And Namie only shows up once, which surprises me most of all.

Actually this list is a really accurate depiction of what is actually popular in Japan right now. And yes, AKB is actually popular among elementary and junior high school students.

But if I'm not wrong, those Oricon Rankings usually survey +- the same people or something like that, doesn't it?

All those magazine/site rankings usually survey the same people (being it cuz they asked those people, or cuz they appeal to this or that group), so, no wonder most of the time the same magazines/sites lists the same artists/bands....
