It seems like during the hey-day of Ayu photography, aka Leslie Kee-era... is when she had the most "actual background" covers..

We'll eventually get used to whatever is used as a cover anyway.. although out of the hundreds of shots they probably take for covers, they choose the ones that people generally don't like which is kind of odd o_o

^_^ I love how so many people assume these will end up being the cover for the single. Calm down, you silly ducks!

avex might PHAIL at photoshop, but Ayu's covers don't look as...weird as this one. Not saying it's bad, cause I think it's pretty. It's just her face shape looks off, somehow. I'm pretty sure the cover will be really similar, but not necessarily this picture. I hope xD

We need to get Leslie Kee back then! But when I think about it, he did "Secret" no? Not that the covers are bad, but they really can't be compared to his past amazing works with Ayu...

I think I know what I don't really like about Ayu's recent covers... I think it's because it's all about her. It's just her there, being beautiful, being pretty, being glamorous. Like in glitter/fated, Secret, BLUE BIRD, fairyland, Startin', B&D, STEP you, MY STORY... It lacks something more than that. A theme, or depth. Compared to say NEVER EVER, I am..., Dearest, evolution, M, Endless sorrow, SEASON, Far away... Which all have a theme, a meaning behind it.

Well, I think that most artists run out of juice at some point..

At least, "creatively." :p

Ayu started out kinda bland in terms of covers and had these amazing images during her peak... and now that this is her what, 43rd single... I think we've just seen so much awesomeness from her that it's hard to please us again D;

As for covers that actually had themes:

mhmm I agree with asongforxx there, now the covers kinda have just a pretty Ayu, which I love. But her old ones seemed to have a bit more thought put into it and not just a gorgeous Ayu. Well I don't really mind cause I love covers like fairyland, BLUE BIRD and Secret cause i think ayu looks like a goddess in those three. Startin' as well, she looks pretty there jsut taht her undies are showing XD ...o.O

And when exactly is the Leslie Kee-era era? Could someone state from which albums or singles. haha I wanna see

Anyway I think maybe these covers assuming that they are the covers. Would look good for an average cover, but when its Ayu I know I've seen much more beautiful covers. And while the butterflies might mean life and nature. It'd look much better if it had a natural background. Not just plain white, assuming if that is the background XD

Also the quality for the pictures isn't why I don't really like it. They don't feel like the real ayu to me, even though it is her. Or maybe its the fact that I'm female and the nude posing doesn't really suit me haha. Although i actually love the RAINBOW, I am... and LOVEppears covers so this shouldn't be a problem for me.

Leslie Kee-era / her peak are somewhat synonymous. XD

She didn't always have Leslie do her singles [as he seemed to solely do album cover/booklet shots]~

There was another photographer who did all of her artsy stuff in 2001/2002.. Keita Haginiwa. He did covers like NEVER EVER and Endless sorrow.

It would be too obvious, ayu's half dark face looking up and on the other expressionless on the side pretty show the emotion-ess of HEAVEN imo =P it's like she's crying..
Basically it's simple yeah but still with a meaning.

She's not crying, but her eyes are glassy.

They shot the cover on some white screen during the HEAVEN PV shoot. You can see them taking the photos during the making of.

I think it's probably just a promo picture. But since it looks like it's taken from a tv screen, the lighting might be off.

She actually is looking like koda to me: skankier looks, rounder face, showing the lower teeth...

Difference is, koda pulls that kind of image better imo.

I'm talking about that photoshoot specifically though, not her recent looks. Her recent looks, covers, photoshoots have been good imo. Much better than those of the glitter/fated era at least O_o;;;

You have only seen a single photo from this shoot, I think some of you are being extremely harsh on her. I mean to call her skanky? Really? And to say that just because she has a rounder face and is showing her teeth she is skanky, its in my opinion ridiculous...

Well, the whole arm covering her naked breast thing is for the sake of art.. I mean, it's not like she's trying to be a sex-kitten.

RAINBOW and LOVEppears/appears were nude photoshoots, but they were tasteful. This one is kind of like I am... without the vines.
