Sunrise and Sunset have only been out for 15 minutes on iTunes and the songs and PVs are already charting!!

omg...the ayupan is sooo cute! looks so much better than the actual covers...XD I rather have those instead. Why couldn't she do that sitting down pose for the cover?

I'm just wondering...could Ayu really compete with Morning Musume very well? Is there any past history of Morning Musume to compare if Ayu can do better than them?

Yes, Actually not from that long ago.

Their single Ambitious! 野心的でいいじゃん was released at the day BLUE BIRD was released.

Morning musume's first week sales were 37,065 (in total 47,159). and they were #4 weekly while ayu's BLUE BIRD's first week was 160,572 and #1 (in total 258,566).

I really don't understand why their new single is being seen as a threat unless if it's being hell more promoted and very different from their past singles marketing wise.

It seems like every few years, an Ayu single goes up against a Morning Musume one.

The first was Renai Revolution 21, which was beaten out by M for the #1, then three/four years later, it was Go Girl! ~Koi no Victory~.. and then Ambitious/BLUE BIRD.. and now Nanchatte/Sunrise/Sunset.

Nope. There was Happy Summer Wedding vs. Far away, and Momosu won the battle (well at that very moment ayu wasn't as popular as momosu; it's about 500K vs. 260-280K on the first week). Then of course ayu won back by M vs. renai (550K vs. 500K on the first week). I can't recall about Go Girl tho.. I just remember & vs. shuffle 2003 LOL .

I totally agree. I would rather see ayupan on the actual cover than the actual (dolly make) ayu.

Current iTunes rankings (its only been out since midnight Japan time. it is now about 6 in the morning there)
Sunrise:10 Overall
9 J-pop

Sunset: 19 overall
15 J-pop

Megamix: 76 overall
44 J-pop

Sunrise PV: 5 Overall
3 J-pop

Sunset PV: 9 Overall
7 J-pop

Its selling so well already! As usual her Pvs will be topping the chart, lets hope Sunrise (the song not the PV) can make it to number one!

A debut at 10 isn't exactly "well". Most popular artists' new singles usually debut at #1 or 2. Let's hope that even if it gets bad digital sales (like D/G and R/S) it'll sell well physically. Those singles barely made it to the top 5 and quickly fell off after a couple of weeks... (I'm talking about iTunes.)
