it's odd, but I think elvis is right o.O

it's some sort of an index, called shisu, I believe: http://www.oricon.co.jp/rank/index2.html#shisu
Quote:
About a daily ranking
The single and the index of daily ranking TOP3 of the album decided to be opened to the public in response to the demand of everybody today.

Sales POS data according to the day from 2200 shops in the whole country was totaled,
and the numerical value open to the public this time made to the index.

A weekly ranking is not a reason that becomes "Total = weekly ranking of one week of daily data" because the sales data such as the event halls through the CD shop of other fax report of 820 shops, the Internet mail order, and the CD shop is finally totaled in addition, and it calculates the number of sheets of the presumption sales. Everything from Monday to Sunday every week is targeted for the total period of a weekly ranking.

I hope about the inquiry in mail.

Moreover, I will assume the second use for the index made public to be strict
prohibition.
Can't really understand much of it, but still, I think the numbers might actually be sales indicators, just that they changed the way they count them or something and changed the name to reflect that it's not really exact reported sales, just presumpted (they surely always were so, but I guess now they decided to point it out better).

Brief translation:
About a daily ranking:
The single and the index of the TOP 3 daily ranking have been decided to be open to the public in response to a demand from the public.

POS sales data for each day was from 2200 shops in the whole country, where the number was totaled, and the numerical value was made open to the public, making the index.

However adding these numbers together does not correctly calculate the weekly sales because there are an additional 820 shops that fax in their report every week, in addition to online stores. At the end of the week the 3 are tabulated together to create the weekly number.
So I think the actual sales is more than the number they announce since there's additional 820 shops which will only fax in the sales @ the end of each week. These daily sales are only partial correct which means we can expect a little more from the sales figure.

I think the sales/sales indicator is quite good cuz if you think about it, if Ayu released just 1 version of A BEST 2 instead of black and white it would've hit the 1 mil. mark much quicker and the sales would look much better.. well that's just my theory but i'm sticking to it

It's strange that they added the sales/index total just now. It seems a coincidence maybe? Did avex push oricon maybe? But I guess avex can just ask oricon for those numbers, and not have to make it public.

It does seem from the translation that this "index" does not include the online shops, like cdjapan. I wonder how much cdjapan actually sells internationally. Do they have like 1000 or 5000 cds of A Best 2 in stock? Because many of the online shops have pre-orders, which maybe shops in the street do less or even not. So next wednesday will be crucial.

But we should wait and see what the next 2 days give. It will be better so see a trend in the sale/index.

But still, go Ayu!

P.S.: ナイトメ - the WORLD ruler, that's the group Nightmare, who did the OP and ED of the Death Note anime.

Sales are good comparated to the NO3 -Chara - UNIO - who have been released the same day as A BEST 2 and who did only 3789 and both of A BEST 2 did more than 150k these two days, so we can say that A BEST 2 is a success no ? And don't forget that since around 2002 Ayu's sells are decreasing, but I keep the hope and I expect A BEST 2 will reach the million ! ( 1 mill. each other should be the best !).

Don't know if these are good or bad but remember most of the week's sales come from the 1st few days of release.

It would be nice to know what the first few days of sales were like for other recent best of compilations. Also, it's still unclear as to whether these are the actual correct numbers or not.

What is promising though is that the second day sales were higher for both albums than the first day sales - wasn't really expecting that.

They're VERY good.

Since online store sales, event sales [in front of shops?] and other sales that aren't in certain stores are not counted in the sales count, there's still a huge chunk of sales left to add to the daily amounts ..]

Yeah.. the sales should be good.. I count the "index" that Arashi's "Love so sweet" and it only came to around 100K (well I couldn't get the first day since it's gone already).. Somehow that single got 200K this week, so I hope A BEST 2 will get over 500K this week

^Well the thing with Johnny's bands is that more than half of the sales come from the 1st 2-3 days of release, so missing the first day's sales is a lot.

What are you talking about, Lacus? D:

320k? Well, it's only technically been on sale for 2 days..
Today's the third[?]. There are 6 days in the Oricon week, so there's still 4 days worth of sales to boost it all up. AND the higher sales due to online orders and such would help too
