I keep mine.
I have (or had...don't know where they went) a sticky plastic thing that attaches to the case and then you insert the obi, so it stays on the outside. Not really explaining that well. I stopped using them because they only work on standard size obi's...not ones with large backs, or double disc CDs like the CD+DVD sets now. They're kinda old. =\
