A true singer doesn't have a formula. Some people would argue a true singer is someone like Celine Dion or Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston, who have a wide range of hitting notes. BoA doesn't even get close to them if you talk about that kind of singing. However, what makes music is not just some rigid formula. a true singer doesn't exist. For instance, there are many people who despise CD, MC or WHouston. Some people hate BoA. There's no artist enjoyed by every and each human being, because music refer to personal tastes. ayu might not be perfect when it comes to singing, but she still IS a singer. BoA is no more of a singer than ayu. ayu at least compose some songs and write all her lyrics, which shows she puts effort on the music, BoA puts more effort on her coreography and performances.

btw, my jmusic list is varied and CDs are varied as well with a big amount of artists, and I'm sorry if I love ayu more than all of them, but I just prefer her over my other favorite artists. ^-^
If you don't like ayu anymore, be mature and don't try to make other people dislike her, just because you don't like her anymore. No one stand behind us with a gun and say "listen to ayu". Knock it off and accept it. So because we like ayu and think that she's good in stuff that you don't we are obsessed? We need a special permission to like her? |

^ true...
like what ayumi's lyrics said: 'measure ur own feeling with ur own set of ruler' my ruler tells me that to become a singer, u need to as least able to sing, both in recording studio and live... if u can't , make a effort to improve on it cuz being a singer is ur job and a passion for singing, then why u want to be a singer in the first place? ...u are forced by ur founder/producer/company or u only want fame , glamorous, money out of it so that u can party all night and buy anything u want? if ayumi is that sort of singer/artist , then singing horribly will not affect me at all ^_^ cuz no passionate for or enjoying singing = dun give a damn as long as that's fans + money pouring in... |

"Rough translation:
This year i has a wild aspiration. Actually last year, i had went for a ear inspection, and found out that my left ear has gone deaf and it's not treatable anymore. Even so, i still wishes to be a singer. Thus, i will use the rest of my right ear to sing till it loses its function as well or till its very limit. I will not give up. I will not find any excuses. As a professional singer, i will definitely give the best singing that i have to everyone. Ganbatte ah.. Must ganbatte!!!! Must!!!!!! Till that day arrives... This is a pretty shocking news.. hope i didn't translate wrongly.. Well I guess that pretty much explains why her lives sound bad then. She's deaf on one ear. Now I feel bad for complaining about her sucky lives, hehe... Poor Ayu though... Does she have baad hearing on her right ear as well, or is the right ear okay?

The right ear is just fine, according to a previous interview. It's just the left one that has trouble..

Now I remembered her words from an interview for CNN, when she said "My life is Music, Music is my life. If not music I would die"
I feel that even if she is not the best singer in the world, she should be admired for her strength. Although, she had her ear problem since Dome Tour 2001 she didn't stop, didn't take a break even for a second. And I feel that it wasn't her choice till the end (to take a break). Avex is Avex and that's so sad. |

ok i am bit late to add to this thread. i saw this concerts on new years day - but didnt think to post here haha im stupid i know -_-"
anyways - i realy like it - it seems that this is the beggining of an amazing year for ayu! the stage was great, the nice costumes and song selection too. Like everyone is discussing though, i did notice a problem with the vocals. I personaly put it down to ayu being ill, we know how overworked she gets around that time of year, remember the ayuready video showing her run from tv show to tv show on new years time? It also sounded like she was holding back - why? i cant imagine. i wrote about it here: www.xanga.com/nomizo31 im sorri if i am not supposed to link my blog here >< just im lazi to write it again hahaha. I felt a little in pain when i heard ayu having trouble hitting those high notes. It is for that reason that i believe it was illness that prevented this, or exhaustion, rather than hearing imparement. I think the hearing imparment ayu has in her left ear will of course hinder her singing however it shouldnt be a huge problem untill she begins losing more functionality in her right ear. Even though we are all concerned fans, and love ayu dearly, i do think maybe it is a little inapropriate for us to discuss such a personal ayu issue so frivolously on this forum. I wan to discuss it too hehe but i will not because it is ayu's private ne? All i will say is i realy wish ayu the best in the future with this issue, and remind her that Australia has best research in hearing imparment - with the invention of cochlear implant, miracles can happen. I have seen one friend experience this! As for the concert again, i loved it. This is the only only ONLY concert that i have ever questioned her vocals. There was of course the limited edition CDL 02-03, but that was largly microphone issues also. We know she had a cold at that time ne? This year, 2008 will be a magnificent year for Ayu, we need to support her with all our hearts, just as she has done for us so many many times. I want to make it my goal to visit her again live, to once again shout out "thank you" from the bottom of my heart. Im sorry if you think i should just shut up, or go to another thread, but this is my feeling and so i wanted to write it here. Thank you ^_^ Last edited by nomizo31; 5th January 2008 at 02:07 PM. i was a bit nervous to post that actualy - i wondered if someone will tell me "shut up!" hahaha so im pleased that someone read it and smile
![]() i read through some more posts in this thread and see people debating about singers miming the songs live... it is quite common for artists to mime at least one song live, to give their voice a break. Even this is the case with ayu, usualy the song is UNITE! not always but usualy. For ayu, it is 97% of the time only one song that is mimed in her concert - the rest is live (ie: only one song). when my family make fun of me for liking ayu (they think she sound like little screaming girl -_-) i simply tell them that at least my number one singer writes her own lyrics, sometimes music too, appreciates her fans, dun rely on sex sex sex to get attention, and who of course SING LIVE hahaha. These are my thoughts haha // ^_~ |

Okay, so I have a random question about the CDL: Do Peco and Princess usually sound that loud in the TV versions? I've only seen the DVD releases of CDLs and they never seemed to be that...creepy.

I'm taking that at least someone in avex has the decency to tone their voices down a bit.
The only time I liked Princess was during CDL 04-05 when Ayu forgotten her lyrics in Trauma and Princess sang through it. It was kind of nice. But as backups, they're just too...loud.

^ Oh...good. And yeah, they are too loud to be backups. It always feels like they're somehow trying to overpower Ayu (like in decision). Thanks for clarifying.
