Well, in japanese language Oo-ta-da would obviously be the right way... but maybe she intended it to be pronounced You-ta-da in her US/UK releases? though I remember reading somewhere that she chose "Utada" instead of "Hikaru" for those especially because she thought it would be easier to pronounce... so I doubt it haha.

I say it "You-tad-da" x3

I know the other way is correct, but it's a habbit.

I mostly just call her Hikki XD

Oooo-ta-da Hikaru! I dunno, I think I've always said Oooo-ta-da, haha. I guess when I know how a name should be said, I try to say it like that. I say Hikki most of the time, anyway

I used to say You-ta-da until my friend bagged me out. So I changed.

Yeah... that wouldn't really make sense to me anyways. Why would you want everyone to purposely mispronounce your name?

I can understand if someone mispronounces a word because they just grew up saying it the wrong way, but mispronouncing a name even when you know how it's supposed to be pronounced seems kind of rude... imo.

"YouTada" never occurred to me and rightfully so. (Almost like saying "YouTube")

It has always been and will always be "OooTada" for me.

I know I let people purposely mispronounce my name because no matter ow many times I tell them to say it the correct way, they never learn. It's just their accent and the way they say stuff. Also, I've known some people from other countries who have names we can't pronounce in their language properly so they either continue to let us mispronounce it or change it to something different. My Bosnian friend's name is Sunčica but she told us to call her Sunshine or just let people say it wrong. That is what her name means.

I pronounce her name OO-tada. Since I am surrounded by different language I try my best to say names the right way.

It's different when you can't pronounce something. But if you know how to say it and it's not difficult to say (Utada), but you choose to say it another way just because it sounds better to you, it just seems rude to me.

I had this friend who decided to give my friends and myself nicknames, and no matter how many times we asked her not to call us by those names, she just refused/ignored our requests. It was really frustrating and rude (to me).

There was a girl at my high school who always pronounced "Hikaru" as "Hick-air-roo". It was really... annoying. I didn't wanna correct her though because she thought she was really smart and awesome.

It's always oo-ta-da. I actually it's not ooo~ta-da but oo!-ta-da (like it's not a long "oooooo"). My lab partner (in 2nd yr chem) was a Japanese, and I think her name was Ikuko (can't really remember how to spell her name anywayz since it was about 6 yrs ago). At first I called her "i~ku-ko" (pronounced the i longer), then a week later she wanted me to pronounce it more properly --> i!-ku!-ko. (with i and ku pronounced fast and sharp)

Now back to the topic. Whenever I hear hikki's name in those Japanese (cd) commercial, it's always "oo!-ta-da". So I always say "oo!-ta-da" instead of "oo~tada"... (dunno if that's correct tho LOL)

Well, it's not as if I met her in person, I would call her You-ta-da He-cow-woo. =/ I would call her by her proper name. I should have reword what I saying in my first post better. I meant that even though I know how her name is pronounced, I still have a habit of saying You-ta-da instead of Oo-ta-da [thankies bluegie ].

Steps out of the thread for a minute...

Spoiler:

You-tay... OMG! *wipes tears from eyes*

*comes back into the thread*

That reminds me in Blow My Whistle when Foxxy Brown said Hikki's name wrong. She said He-cow-ru...and I was like "Wuuu....@_@?" But I understand why she pronounced as she wasn't use to her name.

THANK YOU. It's 宇多田 (ただ). There is no ゆ anywhere in there.

You-tada

I mean, I know the correct way is Oo-tada, but I was in 4th grade when I discovered JPop and Hikki was my first artist, so I've been pronouncing it like that forever.

I saw Oo-tada now most of the time, but when I'm not thinking I still say You-tada.
