Ayu's Verbal Slip?
I'm sorry if this has been posted, apparently it's rather old.... but I didn't come across it til today.
Apparently Ayu said something that really pissed some people off...? I'm not very good with verbal Japanese, and most of the comments are "DIE AYU" so I didn't get too much information other that it has something to do with the handicap? Could someone please tell me what she said :O http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Y4CALFwgUY |

Okay thanks, sorry for the extra thread D: But I was really curious -_-;....
After listening to the video a few times I heard her say something about someone not standing.... I need to work on my verbal Japanese -_-; |

Yeah, basically all she did was say that some people were being kinda un-fun by sitting instead of standing..
And 2ch totally ripped her apart, saying that there was a handicapped girl.. and then it caught on.. and then avex got involved. It was basically something done by people who HATE Ayu for no real reason whatsoever.

Yeah, it was a pretty ridiculous thing. Just basically a bunch of 2channellers inventing a scandal where one didn't exist.
Ayu was making fun of her co-workers for not enjoying themselves & standing up, even though they were in the front row. She got fans to kinda jeer at them, and they stood up. 2chan members who hated ayu decided to spread a nasty rumor - accepted by many as fact, even YEARS later - that ayu was saying that stuff to someone in a wheelchair who couldn't stand up. People in wheelchairs aren't usually put in a place as dangerous as the very front & center part of the crowd, so it's incredibly stupid. Plus you can plainly see NO handicapped person in the video. How it got so out of hand is beyond me.

Tell me about it. That whole event is a very interesting study in sociology & the mob mentality.

that's 2channers, they're anonymous, they're not in it for fame, they were in it to attack ayu and, in their view, make the world a better place.

If they were in it for the fame, I think I'd understand more. Why people go out of their way to be hostile is just... amazing (in a bad way) to me. I just don't understand that mentality. Is it really THAT hard to be polite & civil? I could even understand just bonding with someone over "You don't like ayu either? Man, I HATE her." But to go out of your way to invent a rumor, and go through the trouble of spreading it all over the internet?
That just confuses me o_O And yeah, I was angry when I heard about it back in '02. I hadn't seen the concert yet, so at first I was just like "omg, poor ayu! how embarrassing!" Cuz by then I knew she wouldn't insult a handicapped person on purpose, she's not that malicious. She (at the time at least) was a bit ditzy at times and I could understand her putting her foot in her mouth. Honest mistake though. But time went by and she didn't dignify the rumor with a response, so I knew nothing probably really happened (and later on I finally saw the video of it, so I knew FOR SURE that nothing had happened). But even after the TV version of the concert was spread around, with the event in question, the rumor still persisted. It was a weeeiiird time to be an ayu fan - anti-ayu people kept coming into forums & chat rooms to start the fire back up again. Luckily it's died down, of course, but people do still hear about it & wonder about it, obviously.

I trust Ayumi has enough sense not to make a handicapped person stand up (assuming she knew said person was handicapped). She's not some rancorous twit.
