Don't like her... I used too, but I was a member at a forum where the moderator was VERY biased about her and kind of started to hate on Mika

Also, I hate how she performs live

I kinda agree. At last years Kohaku she looked like an old man who had arthritis and was being blinded by the lights. However her voice was just so beautiful

Mika's a very private person to my understanding. Other than product announcements, CMs and magazines, her name and face tends to stay out of the media inbetween her promotional activities. I think it's kind of a good thing because she gets to maintain her own privacy, but it also turns into a bad thing because I often FORGET all about her.

Also, she's more of a ballad singer than a J-Pop singer. For me, that means seasonized-listening instead of regular-listening. I can listen to at least one Ayu-song everyday, but I can't do that for Mika because her songs have a deeper affect on me emotionally. Even after all these years, FIND THE WAY still makes me break down like a 20-year old baby.

A third point for me would be that lately, Mika has been releasing some weird stuff as singles. I loved LIFE and Eien no Uta...but I DON'T KNOW was just really weird. I love the songs found on the single but, the release itself was VERY weird to me. She didn't even stick with that image or brought the same type of sound onto the VOICE album. It could have been a new era for her but instead, VOICE was for me, just like YES---a bunch of ballads. It was nowhere near the quality of MUSIC imo.

I think that if she collabs with Hyde again, she could make one BADASS J-pop/rock album. But until something awesome like that happens, I can see myself struggling with WHO is Mika Nakashima a few years from now.

I like some songs, like the Nana movie theme song, Glamorous Sky, and LIFE and some other ones that don't come to mind at the moment... She really isn't doing well though with sales and overall popularity right? Maybe that's why many in AHS don't know her well.

she had a bit of a slump period last year when SAKURA & I DON'T KNOW didn't charted in the top 10

she came back with a bang of sorts after that with ORION which was used as Ryusei no Kizuna's opening theme

kinda helped that she had a role in it even though it was a minor 1 but ORION really helped to regain back her popularity

^ Weren't physical sales for Oricon really bad? But it sold awesome digitally! I read it was downloaded over 3 million times. That's a lot. I remember a couple years ago when Gwen Stefani came out with Hollaback Girl, which was a huge hit, they were talking on the radio of how she received an award for the song being downloaded 1 million times, though I'm sure it sold much more than that later. But anyway Mika got 1.3 million for Orion, so I'm sure it was well received!

EDIT: 1.3 million.

the physical sales for ORION were horrible & I honestly thought it might flop as at that time when ORION was released , it was 2 weeks before VOICE dropped

doesn't help that much that I didn't liked ORION that much initally but not anymore & FOCUS's ace

This is random but I just remembered how beautiful VOICE's cover was ( ). One of my favorite covers of 2008. It was so simple yet so...

I usually don't like her covers though ^^; Oh, btw, I looked at Orion's sales and it was over 60,000 which really isn't that bad. She had a couple singles that only sold 10,000 copies so...

me tooo! I used to love that album. Her voice always reached my heart

that's a pity she isn't in the main scene..maybe if she got a bit naked like kuu she could be able to sell more

(sorry to all kuu lovers but i cannot appreciate the fact she's always this sexy-naked look)

i hope this doesn't sound personal (and i apologize if it does) but maybe it's because of her almost always gloomy and sombre expressions and personality. Must smile more often!! She's actually VERY gorgeous!! Hell yes, she is..
