Ayu has never had tons of dead-set fans, like, say, Namie Amuro. She's always been one of those artists who has very..."general" fans and casual listeners, more so than a large and dedicated fan base. Not that she doesn't have a lot of dedicated fans, obviously, but not compared to other artists. Maybe this is why?

Maybe only her die-hard fans care about having the dvds of her performances, ever if the general public is interested about seeing her live...

I wouldn't say that Namie has more die-hard fans cuz when her popularity was at its lowest point, her sales were REALLY low, even if she had some minor hits here and there...

yeah it's funny how NEXT LEVEL sold low, but the tour is huge. I really doubt that Japan is tired of her. they just think like me.. I never buy albums of western artists anymore but I go to concerts alot XD

and thanks! looks like Koda tours the least but releases stuff the fastest.. and Namie tours non stop but releases stuff slower than Ayu and Kuu.. and Ayu is somewhere in the middle lol

Same happens with Madonna in terms of western music... some people just get "tired" of the new material, or always compare it with previous successes, but at the time of attending a concert, you know Madonna/Ayu, etc will stage an amazing show

The only artist royalty that I have ever heard of is Ami Suzuki. She has a fixed monthly salary (so it doesn' matters how much she sells, short term talking of course.) and at the beginning of her career (when she was no one) she got payed at around 1500 USD I think.
How could she afford a flat rent in Japan????!!!

Yeah, I think people may be underestimating her pay a little. Rent in Japan is expensive enough, let alone the place she has, and with everything in it. x_X
