The reason she started writing was because none of the melodys her staff wrote for M appealed to her, she bought a keyboard but, not being able to play it(so the story about her playing piano at the age of 5 must be fake), hummed the melody instead.

In 1999, on Ayu's official site it had a profile page and Ayu said she does piano lessons so she can probably play but I doubt the playing at 5 thing if she was still taking lessons when she was 18 or so I think what happened is that the melody Ayu had in mind couldn't come to her using the keyboard and it felt more natural to hum it out instead
