I'd say albums, cause just an album really shows where you stand as an artist with your popularity. But singles aren't easy either, that's for sure.

Singles is definitely harder than albums, imo. They are much more frequent. Plus, if the record company/artist really doesn't want to lose a streak they just make sure that they aren't going up against a threat.

Singles are harder to get them consecutively on number 1!
albums of famous singers get the number 1 spot really guaranteed,BUT not the singles. A good example for this is Kuuchan! |

Singles, because the single has to offer something extraordinary.
![]() Like they have to change their style with each single, but still in a way that's popular...I think. ![]() |

Both are Equally hard to keep
having consecutive #1 streaks for albums and/or singles is great & all but it also put a lot of other artistes at a disadvantage that & also record labels have to struggle to keep afloat of their artiste's accomplishments if a record been shattered/broken , the media will cook up stories that oh this's the end of so & so

Singles are so much harder, mostly because there are more of them for every artist, so more competition, and less demand.
Albums are really guaranteed for really famous artists...and since less people are releasing albums at the same time since there's less of them than singles...it's much easier to manipulate the week of your releases so that, for example, Ayu isnt going up against EXILE or something. And for artists that are lesser known and hardly ever get #1 albums...their singles usually fare much worse on the charts. Besides, singles aren't as "tasty" either...usually they'll come with like a poster or something...albums have more content and you can get more goodies...price difference imo doesn't really matter that much. Albums are always more desirable than singles.

Singles I think because singles can be a hit or miss for some artists.

Singles for me. Only diehard fans tend to buy singles, it seems.
