No, she shouldn't. That would mean she have nothing more to offer by herself.

Not necessarily lol. She could just want to try a special project. Ayu is not too good to try other avenues of expression and it certainly doesn't mean she doesn't have anything more to offer. She could just, you know, want to do it lol.

Not neccessarily. Koda Kumi (no haters to this guys, please) has had a kick-ass year and had an amazing cover album released; which was just beautiful. But her own music isn't lacking either.

It'd be something different for Ayu to do a cover album, to put her own ideas onto songs she loves. It's another form of music expression, imo, not an artist being lazy. As Kuu proved, with making the songs totally her own, it's a talent being able to make a song sound original by yourself when it was made for someone else.

That is sooo not true. There are artists who can release great cover albums and they make the songs so much better! Ayu could pull it off.

I really enjoyed SEVEN DAYS WAR and it seems to be a really important song to Ayu. Am I the only one glad that it's added to the album?

IMO if she'd like to than she would do it already.

Bad comparison. Koda Kumi is supporting by singing covers since some time (Can We Go Back, Physical thing). Her cover albus is weak and they released it ONLY because they have to "celebrate" her 10th anniversary somehow but they couldn't release another BEST compilation because they already did it (at the beginning of this year).

If they make covers they aren't artists but trying just earn on fans of succesful performers who did those songs originally.

Well, I'm going to agree to disagree. We obviously have clashing opinions, because I think when an artist covers a song...it's hard, because they need to change it so it suits their style but also keep the same 'feel' as the old song, because it's kind of a tribute to them. It's not as easy as everyone thinks when artists do it right.

Oh, but a quick comment to the Koda Kumi thing; apparently she's been working on it for years, so I think she put a lot of effort into it. I don't think such a worked-on album was simply released for the 10th Anniversary as a second option because they couldn't release a BEST album.

But I respect your opinion anyway, not everyone thinks the same.

Anyway. I liked the Last angel preview It looks a lot more interesting than her last few PV's, I really want to see the full thing now.

obviously ayu's not an artist. She's just trying to earn undeserved support from fans by singing songs that were successful already from other artists.

Songs she's covered:
Haru yo koi
SEVEN DAYS WAR
Sotsugyou Shashin
Chako no kaigan monogatari
Curry rice no onna
Dear my friend
Itsuka no Merry Christmas
Silent Night
Olivia wo Kiki Nagara
papillon
Shiroi Koibitotachi
Sons of the sun
teens
Tokyo
TRUE LOVE
White Christmas

I'm missing a bunch of other songs too from her cover artist days, and some other cover songs from ayu ready?

There is a difference between basing your whole career on covers and recording one cover album after you've already had 10+ studio albums of your own and sold millions of cds? Also Can We Go Back and Physical Thing could hardly be labeled as covers, because they were most likely bought from their producers at the same time/even before the "originals" were recorded the same way Tohoshinki and Sarah Connor bought the rights to "Under your skin". It's really a common thing in the music industry. Besides random European singers are hardly popular anywhere else but in their respective countries, so you could hardly say she is trying to appeal to their fans, when they actually don't have any fans in Japan. Now it's different when you're covering older Japanese songs, especially when they are so old that the people who used to listen to them will still hardly care about you. So no matter how you look at it, your story doesn't hold water. Especially that only a selected few artists like Ken Hirai, JUJU and Hitomi Shimatani had success with covers, some were either very popular even before and some were forgotten quickly, while both Ayu and Ku are famous for their own songs, no one is going to look down on them because they've made a cover album.

THANK YOU!

And just a side note, Kumi's cover album was actually really good! Made me fall madly in love with her again. I encourage everyone to give it a listen!
