Am I the only one who dislikes LOVEppears? haha

So far I really love everything that we got. Well, maybe I won't listen to HBYA that often (I only listen to this kind of songs when I have a certain mood), but I find PQ really catchy haha

I'm really excited about this album!!

I'm talking about the composition, not the recording. We have the whole song from CDL so we know the composition. And the only LOVEppears songs that COULD be considered upbeat I prefer are And Then and monochrome. WHATEVER is on the same level for me. LOVEppears is by far my least favorite Ayu album, though with the vocals and recording quality she has nowadays I'd like a LOVEppears-esque album more.

To many Ayu fans that album is what bible is to Christians and for a good reason

LOVEppears is just such an old album and... different from what she does now or from what she did in her peak...
I don't dislike it, but it is low on the list of ayumi albums for me.

Well not that I really really hate this album, but as for me, she has so many albums that are muuuch muuuuch better

I only enjoy half of the songs on LOVEppears, though it has been slowly growing on me lately.

Though my taste seems to really differ from the other Ayu fans. I love her latest (from My Story on, including NL, RnRS, LS and FIVE) albums much more than the first ones haha

And for me she's becoming better and better, while almost all of the fans here seem to think that she's going downhill

And please don't get me wrong. I love both "old" and "new" Ayu, I still love a lot of her old songs and so on, I just think that she is getting even better lately.

While I'll admit that musically it might not be her best album, when it comes to the lyrics it's most likely in top3. On top of that it had some of her best songs to date - monochrome and And then being some of my all time faves.

^ Oh, you actually got a good point there... I'm not really sure about the lyrics on LOVEppears as I don't understand Japanese and I've only read the translations of my favourite songs, so yeah

But as for the songs that I like from this album... I actually love the lyrics, and I like this sad, cold, melancholic atmosphere. Maybe in the future I will actually enjoy the rest of this album, who knows. I tend to dislike and not even pay attention to some songs for a long time, but then they might become my favourites.

Most of Duty songs also had very same "atmosphere" and then it slowly started fading away and sadly it was gone after RAINBOW.

I find that patience is hard to come by while waiting for these covers to be revealed. I will say that the song titles are not as strange to me now as they were when they were unconfirmed.

I thought RAINBOW was not intended to be an album with that sort of atmosphere since the concept behind it was a 'dream/fantasy'. IIRC, a working concept for the album was TODAY/TOMORROW (Leslie suggested TOMORROW at first but Ayu felt that TODAY was what she wanted to represent) but then RAINBOW was suggested by Leslie at some point?

I thought the feeling came back with Memorial address and MY STORY before she felt 'happy' and it disappeared completely from (miss)understood onward. However, GUILTY and Rock'n'Roll Circus had a sort of dark feel that's similar to what you described imo. Other than those two, I feel that joy/love/hope have become her main set of values when creating new songs with a few exceptions.

FYI, the photobook for Party Queen is intended to be a collection of off shots from the album cover shoot which were not used in the album's cover/booklet. This is probably for a future magazine.

I'm with Becky & Ushiromiya Nagi.... I loove MY STORY onwards!!! Though I do LOVE choice songs from before then - the hits: Memorial Address, BoY, A song for xx, boys&girls... etc

I only like about half of LOVEppears.

Yeah.. if I had to pick albums like her LOVEppears and Duty then GUILTY ans RnR are closest to them after in a long time...
With Party Queen I dont think we will be going anywhere near the "dark side"
