Hm, I didn't really expect there to be many. I don't think that Kuu has ever been too... traumatized or anything. Like, besides being picked on for her looks. But, she does have her "be who you are" songs, so those lyrics are probably rooted in that.
I don't relate to many of the love songs that are released, by any singer. But, with Kuu and some of my other favorites, like Ayu, even when they do write love songs, or even in Kuu's case, lust songs, they are at least genuine because I believe they are written from the heart. With Kuu, I've always thought that her message to the world was "be strong and confident in yourself and be happy, that's what will make you sexy. It will also attract people to you because you will be beautiful both inside and out. And it will help you get a man who will love you for those reasons", lol. Like I said, probably because she was picked on for her looks, then realized when she became confident her sex appeal followed. She's just an upbeat person who probably just stays positive. Now I'm just rambling. Thanks for your answers, guys. I was in a bad-ish mood and it made me wonder if Kuu ever did write a song when she was down. I do kinda wish she would write something about how she felt during the time of her scandal, or at the beginning when she was told to lose weight/she wasn't selling/etc.

Koda's songs always make me feel great cause they're so sweet, and empowering, and really genuine. It's why I fell in love with her music.
They might not be crazy deep or anything like that, but I think there's a lot of value and artistry in what she does. Anyway, I really love and appreciate her personality...it's actually my favorite out of all the artists I like.

^^ Love goes like... may sound dark, but the lyrics are pretty... hot, if you know what I mean
![]() Well, I think that Kuu doesnt have this kind of song cause since she was a kid she pretended to be a singer and touch people's heart and give them that good warm feeling in their hearts, just like her mother used to do, so this totally directioned her lyrics to the other direction, plus, as happiholic said, she hasn't been "traumatized or anything". ayu, on the other hand, wrote her songs to "save herself", like she said once, so she needed to put all that pain out of her heart in her songs, which gave us those dark songs. |

I think the most deep song is magic, it has a really beautiful lyric and it's not about love someone (well, it's about love yourself, I don't know if this really counts lol).

^beautiful. i love that ballad.
does anyone have a list of the songs kumi released that she didn't write? (not including covers) since i've been reading her lyrics translations lately but am unsure which ones she didn't write. i do know she writes the majority but i think there's at least one per album she doesn't take part in but i can't remember which ones. |

affection Grow into One Feel My Mind Secret First Things Second Session Black Cherry Bounce & Lovers Kingdom Trick Universe Dejavu Japonesque Her first album has the most songs written by Kuu herself. Her second has the least, I believe. Also, Kuu started producing her own albums, starting with Black Cherry.

Why do I have a memory in my mind that Moon Crying was written of Kuu's sadness that she felt because of amniotic fluid scandal? It's one of the most saddest Kuu songs ever released so I really think it might be so. I also think that show girl has a little hint of loneliness and sadness in the lyrics if you really think about it. It sounds very cheerful but every time I read those lyrics I just can't help but think, "wow, she must have felt sad when she wrote this song"~
I also think that TRICK is a very dark album as a whole and it makes me think that it was the album where she tried to let all of those negative feelings out but couldn't. I know that at least with UNIVERSE she finally got over that sadness. ![]() These are just speculations I've came up with after I read Koda Reki translation~ |

Also, I'm gonna burst the love bubble for magic, because as sweet as it is, it wasn't written by Kuu.

TRICK is a dark album imo because it's not the way Kumi wanted, she wanted to do a music video for each song but her label did not allowed to do this.
Even some songs don't seem finished, like Bling Bling Bling, so I think the album had a rushed release.

She also said once that looking at herself, through her albums and looking at her album covers at that time, (through 2008 and 2009) she noticed that most of her work was very dark and grey, and didn't have any colour like her older works. I think she said her sadness at that time (because of the scandal) that's how it come out in her work. And she said she had lost the confidence to really 'try' after it, and it took her a long time, til 2010 (where her work got more colourful again) until she was ready to start 'running forward' again, as she put it. She also said that's why she dyed her hair from blonde to black at that time, cause of the sadness she was feeling.@Dr.Dolce: I think 'Moon Crying''s lyrics are about the scandal too. Or at least how it made her feel at that time. Whenever I read the lyrics, I always feel like she is talking to her fans, and how she realized (or thought) she had upset them and the people she loved from what she had said. I remember her also saying something like she felt incredibly guilty that she had upset all of her fans who loved her, and she wanted to make it upto them. Such as:I didn’t mean to put that expression on your face Even though I loved you I made you feel sad And there were tears that day She keeps referring to 'that day', which I believe is about the scandal. That's how I always feel when I listen to Moon Crying. Koda always says about walking down the road together to her fans, like her walking down the road with the people she loves and her fans, an in MC she says:I am on the road I used to walk with you Walking beneath the moon While singing a sad melody I think that during that time, where she was alone after she had put herself into solitude, and virtually she had almost lost her career due to that day, She almost lost everything, and I honestly think that is what Moon Crying is about, whenever I listen to it that's how I feel. But that could just be my interpretation of it. ![]() Sorry, essay again. xD

i find that weird too. also i was almost 100% sure the same people who composed/arranged "Koi no mahou" did "Everyday". they sound soo similar. i'm shocked they're by completely different people. |

![]() Also yes, Mr. Blistah doing anything on that song is odd. Its not his typical style at all, but he did a great job on it. @ren'ai: I agree about Sweet Love. It took me a while to like that song, because I loved the opening so much, I wanted the melody to stay the same. Its kinda random when it changes. But her do-do-do's in the high voice made me love the song, because the piano melody comes back during them. Its a nice blend.
