She's not doing everything herself. The last studio album was released more than 4 years ago, the last single too, and I don't count those 4 new songs, because they're old 2 years. So yeah, she is lazy.

So do I! LOL I was so hype when she performed that in NYC.

Lazy, or just wanting a normal life..? She's been making music since she was a kid. No surprise, since both of her parents are heavily in the music business, but still. I think it's just so ignorant of people to call her lazy when she's just living life the way she wants to. She's had enormous success, I think she has the right to sit back and enjoy the rewards of it.

Also, the rolling eyes smilie is so patronising. Why is it even used ew

lol it was used because it's the fact that she's not doing everything herself, having in mind all of the people from her company that help her and work together with her.
She's never been a hard worker when it comes to her profession, tbh. It's not as if she had done too promotions, released too singles, done too many concerts, as a matter of fact, she is known as somebody who doesn't care much about it.
I don't have anything against her for living her life or whatever, I care about her music and not what she does with her personal life, it's just that I don't see how she can be fed up with everything. It's not as if she can't switch to another profession, or do whatever she wants, she's rich and popular enough for that. So, she either doesn't care about producing new music or she's just lazy.

1st sentence: true. She sneezes and it makes headlines.
2nd sentence: hikki said that she's going on an "indefinite hiatus". This implies that she WILL come back. It's not a matter of making music, its a matter of having the will to make new music. She said that she's going on hiatus because she's tired, and that she's coming back in "2-5 years". So we'll get music as soon as she gets off her butt.

I think it's funny how some fans of other artists would like for them to go away for a year or 2 and finally come back with a purpose and reason instead of just putting crap out over and over again just because they can, yet some criticize Utada vehemently for knowing when her creative juices need recharging and going away to allow that to happen instead of going the way of ayumi for example.

I commend her for that. Still sad though.

Go Guuuurl!

Oprah's Favorite Things episodes are no joke.

Anyway...I don't think she's lazy. But I think she has some apathy.

Which is fine. I don't care.

She is composing her melodies herself, composing her lyrics herself and doing a good amount of the production herself. This is far more envolviment with her own music releases than any jpop musician people worship over this forum. It's easier to release 4, 5 albums a year while touring when u have a team the size of a small country composing and producing everything for you to just choose and put some lyrics to it... Some even don't write their own lyrics.

She released 7 studio albums, 2 bests and 10 DVDs in +- 13 years before going on Hiatus (8 studio albums if u consider Precious)... This may seen little compared to Ayu or Kuu that bring a new release everytime they absent to go to the bathroom, but is as much a normal popstar of her level would release.

what i dont understand is that people think they know everything about it.
Just because an artist wants to take a break doesnt mean she's lazy. (not trying to start something, but in general). Just because you dont see everything that is going on behind the scenes doesn't mean you know everything.

Just like Andrenekoi said, Hikki does a lot of her own stuff... and im pretty sure working with disney burned her out... lol.

it takes a lot to try and make music. Especially if you dont want it to sound stale or the same over and over. When you are invested in the music as much as she is... it just drains a lot out of you.
You can ask anyone in the creative business. (Music, movies, tv shows, books, comics) sometimes you just need a break from it.

Yes, god forbid she wants to have a life and doesn't want music to be the only thing going on for her.

Lol, so funny when people wish Hikki would be a machine who puts out a new album or two per year. :'D Not gonna happen. She makes art with her music, and art takes time to be finished. It's almost the same if you decide to write a book. You take lots of time (I've already taken 5 years with one story and it's not even finished yet) to make plans and then you take time to write that story. If things are being rushed, and no breaks are taken, the result is total crap. Same formula goes for the greatest music I've ever heard so I'm happy that Hikki takes time with her music. Masterpieces aren't made in 5 minutes lol.

^Truth.

I've been composing a 'single' song for about 3 weeks now, and I'm still not done with it, and that's not even including lyrics, vocals, final mastering/mixing/pitch correcting.

You clearly have never met me! lol.

But I agree with everything! I like Hikki's music and although she is a pop star she never really fell into that trap that all pop stars fall into and make music for the masses... She makes music for her and if people like it, well fine.

ehhhhhh. Pretty sure this one was a sellout. Hikki never would have so many flops on an album unless she was doing it just to go mainstream. Say what you will but if we took a poll im sure the majority would agree.

Meh, that's not about it. I don't care even if it lasts for 10 years (producing) to be honest, even though I might not even listen to her then. My outburst was cuz of my longing to hear anything BUT anything useful of her^^
What I meant was that instead of making useless announcements about her bear, it would have been better to inform fans about the longevity of her hiatus or even about the possible not-doing-anything-ever. Yes, she doesn't have to. But you can say whatever you want, she still depends on her fans. Fans are those who will buy her music and if they lose the interest, it wouldn't be good for her career. She'll still have those who will listen to her no matter what but there will be a great number of people who won't be even enthusiastic. Even though she's rich enough to handle it, perhaps.
Unf, a robot, yeah right

She writes her own lyrics that's more than enough for me.
Because she's not dedicated to making music doesn't mean she's lazy.
