Lol, I do agree that Hikki would be the ultimate example of a comeback when she chooses to re-surface, but to be honest it looked as if Japan barely gave a damn that she was leaving looking at her sales for her last singles collection/"sayonara" letter, if you will...

I think you're thinking of Utada The Best, the complation album which took songs from Exodus and TITO. Hikki was all like 'it contains no material, guys, dun buy it." In the end it sold less than 40k.

But her official 2nd greatest hits sold about 450k

it sold 450K, yes, but compared to her first one it did horribly (2.5 million) even compared to her last album, heart station which sold over a million copies.
You would expected something more, especially when it had a 2nd disk with all new stuff.

She wanted people to by the second SINGLES COLLECTION, featuring Japanese material and new songs.

She did not want people to buy that compilation of her English material (UTADA the best), conveniently being released around the same time. Two entirely different albums.

I doubt anything of hikki's would ever sell over a million again, unless it was hyped to hell and everyone worldwide was waiting for it.


I'd have more hope for hikki over any of the other top girls though. If anyone could do it, it's probably her.

Honestly though, I do think it should have done better, regardless of the times.
A) It's Utada Hikaru
B) It was a singles collection/BEST of
C) It also included new material
D) It was basically a farewell (for now)

I think you misunderstand me.
I didn't mean that 450K was bad in terms of sales (for the year) but for her it was.

Her last album, heart station sold over a million copies in 2008 then her singles collection only sold 450K two years later... she lost over half her selling power in two years. Thats pretty drastic if you ask me even in the declining sales years.
