YAS @ Perfume's GAME, Utada's First Love and Namie's PAST<FUTURE

Duty as recommended, hmm that does make sense. I personally believe Duty is one of her strongest albums.

And oh, I can't wait for this thread to become the "let's bash the idol groups" thread.

Eh, for the artists that I do listen to, I really don't think those are the best album choices for trying to get ijto j-pop. Like first love and Duty are kind of old and not even remotely close to being current. Although Duty is great I guess. Utada has way better albums for first timers than first love -___-

Idk. At least it's a diverse listing kind of.

I highly disagree with this list, because I remember when I started listening to J-Pop, and most of the albums in this list contain the style of songs that would have made me give up on j-pop if I had listened to them back then... I still can't bring myself to like most of those artists up to this day.

Duty, PAST<FUTURE and Black Cherry are great recommendations though

I disagree with some of the albums being mentioned in this list . Like , I'm a big ARASHI fan but I wouldn't recommend Boku no Miteiru Fuukei to someone who wants to get into JPop (that should have been either Time or ARASHIC which're both still excellent albums til now)

On that note , Duty wasn't the album that got me into ayumi in the beginning , that will be Secret . Then again at the end of the day , such lists are subjective if not debatable

I agree with Duty being picked. Especially when looking at lyrics and live performances. It's my favorite Ayu album, too. If they had to pick from one of Utada's albums, they should have chose DEEP RIVER. Black Cherry IMO wasn't a smart choice. I'd easily take secret or grow into one over that. Those have more of "JPop" flair. Black Cherry seems fairly western. I think the rest of the albums are fairly representative of popular JPop though.

If Momoiro Clover is in the ranking then this is a ranking to make you deaf or something

I agree because Ayu's high pitched voice in Duty might also make you feel dizzy

Also if we add Utada's First Love cover then there are serious intentions to harm people

Can not even understand how you can put something like First Love over something like Ultra Blue. I mean especially if you're gonna capitalize on the whole Kingdom Hearts thing. What's wrong with these people.

Like pls lol

The list IS so JPOP though. Reminds me of how fucking boring everything is. Ick.

I can't understand why AAA is that high in the ranking ôo
I don't think that AAA is a good artist for J-Pop beginers

Cuz UB is quite non-JPop IMO. To get into the real JPop world (probly aka cute high pitch and probly boring to u lol), I think First Love is probly the best choice. Not saying that FL sounds JPop, but it is the highest selling album of all time in Japan, so it's normal to see it on the list.

For ayu tho, I wouldn't recommend Duty. Instead, I would recommend LOVEppears. That album is soooo Japanese. I remember I was so horrified by the pv and the music of appears when I first listening ayu. It's too JPop (i.e., high pitch), and it was so different than hikki's music (back then I only listened to hikki).

I would choose albums:

Ayumi's (miss)understood or Secret
Namie's Queen of Hip-Pop (but maybe PAST < FUTURE is a better example of J-Pop, but I like QoHP more)
Koda's secret
Utada's Distance

But that's my personal opinion.

Isn't First Love one of the biggest selling albums in J-POP history? I can certainly understand why it was included on this list.

I don't agree with this list at all lol.
Like, if someone's first taste of jpop was Arashi and AKB48 having NEVER heard jpop before, chances are 99% they'd be completely turned off. Not because they're "bad" per se (although I don't personally really like them), but there's a stark difference between jpop and what Western-listeners like... And idk. I just think it'd be better to start someone off with actual artists and not just idols.

I also don't agree with the albums chosen for the big divas either, lol. Black Cherry's fine but DEEP RIVER, STYLE or PLAY, and (miss)understood are probably what I'd recommend for the others. idkkk.

I think Duty is a good choice for Ayu, as is Past <Future for Namie. Here's a few others I would have liked on the list:

Ayumi - (miss)understood
Namie - Concentration 20
Hikaru - Deep River
Kumi - Best ~Second Session~

Also would have been nice to have seen L'Arc~en~Ciel on there and Hyde's Roentgen album.

AAA covers a lot of genres so I guess that's why it would appeal to beginners; they might find at least one song they like lol

Duty seems like an off choice for beginners. I would have thought more I am... or MY STORY.

AAA must remain on the list, the reason was said on the post above, but I can't agree with the position nor with the album choice '--' They have better albums that define J-Pop.
