Honestly spoken, I don't even know why her popularity fell so rapidly all of sudden. She always had high production values, her singles never alienated her fanbase and she was there most of the time. It is just a mystery to me.

^ Her popularity in Japan you mean? If so, I don't know. Anti-Korean sentiments perhaps?

There weren't any outstanding hits or smth for some time and then after Identity there was a 5 month wait for WOO WEEKEND which was followed by over a year of silence until Milestone came out followed by another wait of over a year for Only One. Pretty sure that is what destroyed her popularity. + now another wait of a year. The distances between her releases are simply too long. And I don't expect japanese people to follow her korean releases

Popularity depend on how much time you spent on it. Let's see...

At first she get famous in both Kor n Jpn because she spent half half time in both country. After 2005 she mainly focus on her career in Jpn, tour singles album n tv lives, but that when her career in Kor start to flop also.

Her career in Jpn start to flop when she start spend more time on US for her eng album, and prepare for her comeback in Kor. Then she spend few years mainly on her Kor album, movies, series, and tv shows.

"Shout It Out" have a moderate success, but her Jpn comeback album became a singles compilation, which can't satisfy her fans anymore. After tour she back to Kor again...

During the early years of her career, it was all about balance. Keeping her Korean and Japanese fans happy at the same time. Releasing 2 albums per year (2000-2005). Usually Korean album during the first 6 months of the year, and a Japanese one the second half of the year. But she was younger back then. She had the stamina and energy. Now? I don't think so. When was the last time she released 2 albums and promote in 2 different countries at the same time? 2010 I think. Releasing Identity and Japan tour during the first half of 2010, then packing up and going back home to Korea for Hurricane Venus/Copy & Paste and focusing on Korean TV and radio promotions. Miss those times when she was active in both Japan/Korea in a year's period. I don't think she wants to do or can do that anymore. It's taking a toll on her aging body I guess.

I can't even imagine just how exhausting it had to be during the peak of her popularity. I mean, not just juggling one country, but two, and having to know another language (or 3, or 4), tv shows, promotion, award shows, commercials, traveling... Lord, I go from one state in the US to the other and I'm ready for a nap. But doing all that? It takes a lot of stamina and endurance and, to be honest, I don't mind her taking as long of a time as she has to be releasing things now. She went so hard for so long that she probably enjoys just sitting around the house once in a while and watching some tv. I mean, c'mon, the girl was a phenomenon at, what? Thirteen years old? At thirteen I cried if I didn't do my math homework on time. xD After all that, she's probably done being the 'Best of Asia' and now wanting to just take the time to actually enjoy her job and all the things it entails. It's probably really good for her, especially if she keeps cranking out awesome material like Lookbook and Only One.

I think you're being incredible harsh at her. I don't think it's about sales for her anymore. Back then, she had little contro over her music and promotion, something that changed, thank God. I think she's much happier with her music now than she was in the beginning of her career. As long as she is feeling happy with what she's doing, it's enough for me as a fan, it doesn't matter if it takes three times more than in the past to release something

she was active but then she got down to releasing some boring jpop and no hits, so people got bored of her. IDENTITY almoust wasn't promoted and people didn't buy it. then she was inactive for some long time. so

It's not BoA's popularity that fell so rapidly, that's how the whole music industry works for female solos which debuted thanks to Ayu+Ami Suzuki+Hikaru Utada success in 1999, look the careers for Ami Suzuki (ended), Mika Nakashima, Koda Kumi, and even people is geting bored of newcomers like Thelma Aoyama, Kana Nishino, CheNelle which were the big promise just a couple years ago

People interest is on idols right now, the boom of female solos fade away

Kana Nishimo still has great sales. Her career is also rather based on downloads, which she still is a topseller in.

Kana has a good career and good popularity, she will also fade with time, I guess Groups are more popular, even the old jpop groups still make better sales.

^Thanks for sharing! I haven't found myself too addicted to lookbook, even though it is really fun. Sigh...I wish she would release something that I'd fall in love with again.
