Was shocked and a bit sad when I heard the news, but wishing Chiaki all the best. They are not teenagers anymore. I don't see why she could not continue her career at a later point, but AAA is physically demanding and having a baby might not work out with that. And this is Japan, so it might be impossible. *sigh*

Exactly. I hate it that they demand of their women to abandon their careers and become boring housewives. That is one of the reasons I admire Namie Amuro - she decided to stick around.

I have alot of respect for Namie, but sadly she is the exception. I also understand that it must be quite hard if you're a member of a band. A solo artist has it easier. What should AAA do now? Stop their activities? I think the option of coming back should be open to her, if AAA continue. But then she is 30 years old and a mother. I doubt her husband who is said to be in his 40s will be a stay at home dad. It's really sad, but I think she is gone for good. It sucks because they had planned many activities and they have been in their current 7 member constellation for 10 years. Chiaki's voice is an important part of their songs and music. Idk, it feels so final and like the beginning of the end.

^Kumi is also still doing music, so is seiko and a lot of other people. I think Chiaki just doesn't want to get old in AAA. Her agency confirmed she will stay in the entertainment industry however.

Like I wrote, if you're solo you can do things in your own pace, and having a kid is definitely not the career killer it once was. But still...Japan is very backwards with their attitudes, especially when it comes to pregnancy and parenthood. It's expected that the woman gets married to the father of her child, once she is pregnant. It's ridiculous. And I don't think Chiaki has the star power of Kumi Koda or Namie.

So I cannot really believe she will stay in the entertainment industry, or took her marriage and pregnancy as an easy way out of AAA. Especially since there have been plans for MisaChia activities without the men for this year. She might want to try on her own in time, but her chances to make it, are slim. She's 30. To be honest, they are all a bit too 'old' to be the cool teenage pop idols anyway. I love them, though, and I want them to continue and do their best even if they're not able to dance like before, haha.

That's disappointing to hear one of the two girls (Chaki) leaving AAA. We're sad to hear about this, but I'm backing this departure. It would be too much to bear if she has a baby and she is part of AAA at the same time...we're going to really miss her from AAA.

So, that means, only one remaining girl in AAA? They will never be the same without Chaki (Ito Chiaki)...

^well, entertainment industry can mean anything. I speculate some drama, MC, Radio or model crap. And I don't think AAA will last that long anymore.

It seems the baby wasn't planned as there was the MisaChia unit's concert. I suppose Chiaki pondered before to take her decision and to talk AAA's team about her choice. As someone said it, you can't ask the whole band to take a hiatus because of your life choice.

I think the best choice for the band would be to hire a new girl to rebalance it and maybe to innovate but I don't think it'll happen.

When people turn 30 it is often a reason to look at your life and ask yourself what it is that you really want. And that's one of the reasons why I think that, while having a baby might've been unplanned, it is certainly not the 'accident' that many young entertainers in Japan have, who then marry quickly. With 30, you know what you're doing and you know how to prevent things from happening that you do not want.

I don't think a new girl would work this late into their career. They should've auditioned for another female member when Yukari left, which was pretty early on. But now that train has left. I don't think the fans would like it either. It's painful but I think Chiaki's leaving isn't as nuclear as Misako leaving. If Misako or say, Nissy left I think AAA wouldn't be able to continue.

Misako's obvious, but why would a Nissy departure potentially lead to a disbandment of AAA? What about Urata Naoya?

^Nissy is a key member. The original lineup of the band is actually the one we got now...they added the other two girls later. That is why they don't really sing in the first few singles.
