It's better than 'Rainy days', but like most of Ayu's recent stuff, it sounds too much like everything she's already done.

The album sort of has the "every-song-sounds-the-same problem". Not good.

She says 'Tell me a Story' in the BG track :]

BanFan; I have a question: If you were a Jpop artist and after about 7 or so albums, do you think that you could pump out new material that sounds NOTHING like any of the previous songs?

Just wondering.

There are plenty artists that manage to make fresh, new sounds with new albums. For example: Aikawa Nanase, Every Little Thing, hitomi, globe, Mika Nakashima, Shiina Ringo, even Morning Musume. And none J-pop, Lee Jung Hyun.

Every Little Thing, Morning Musume, globe and hitomi are the best examples. They've all been around longer than Ayumi and their stuff often changes and is quite refreshing and usually sound very different.

Are you sure you don't listen to an Ayu song expecting it to sound 'oh. this is familiar.. >>'? If you are, that's probably the big problem with her music sounding the saaame.. I don't think it does.. I think it's really fresh! Something is always bound to sound similar to something else if you go into it thinking that way .. :F lol

Well, then again, she made Bold & Delicious, which imho is like..

SUPER SUPER different from what she's ever released before. As with Pride. :F And people.. didn't seem to like that. >>

I have a feeling that Ayu fans aren't 'fans of ayu' when she goes too far from what they fell in love with..

Startin' is a fast track. Reminds me of UNITE and Evolution, but it's what I've expected. It's a typical game track, like Real Emotion and Simple and Clean remix.

Being a fan doesn't mean you have to like everything that artist makes. Ayumi has changed a lot since her debut and I like stuff from her debut and I like stuff now. But that doesn't change the fact that some of it just sounds really similar, mainly on the new album.

I am NOT saying that you need to like everything, it's just that when it comes to having almost everything being 'similar to old songs' or 'crap compared to [insert song]' or 'ugh! this change is fo the bad!', then it seems a little off, you know?

BanFan, no offense but most Mika ballads sound the same old stuff over and over again. And MM release different material simply because.. there are so many. It wouldn't make sense having the same type of material for each and every girl.

I agree hitomi comes with original material but sometimes it's not so grand either. Love Angel bored me after a couple of listens.

I really love this song. The guitar riff is amazing and the tune is just well done and original, and I dont think this song sounds like any other. Evolution maybe, but thats just grasping at straws.

I wish that she would pick better song titles though. Most of them from Bold&Delicious on are too engrish and bland/annoying.

It reminds me of Free & Easy's chorus, sounds nice, I like how ayu can adapt her voice into different styles of songs!
soothing voice for rainy day, powerful voice for Startin' and B&D, emotional voice for HEAVEN and Will

I have to totally disagree there. Every Little Thing and Morning Musume especially have tons of songs that are about the same. Morning Musume has been doing the same thing FOREVER, there music is beyonod generic by now.

Most of those artist actually have made many songs that sound very similar to their past works, so I don't really see where Ayu is going wrong with her new songs.

I think hitomi's songs all sound pretty much the same. (I'm a hitomi fan btw)

Haven't heard Startin', and it may be a long time before I do, if it's not released on CD soon.
